So, one of my girls had an abscess which I noticed in December, after Christmas. I didn't have much money at the time so I put her on the antibiotics, which immediately made her stop eating and drinking. I took her off them and decided I would have to wait till the end of January to get it removed. I went to check a few days ago and it's GONE! The whole abscess has gone, What has happened? Do abscesses usually disappear?

Abscesses do not usually disappear on their own and neither do they usually clear up from antibiotic use. Usually an abscess is a sealed pocket of infection that is difficult for antibiotics to penetrate. This is why abscesses usually need opening up and draining to allow them to heal from the inside out.

Was the abscess diagnosed by a vet? The first abscess I experienced with a piggy was drained but not left open. By appearance it looked as though the piggy was cured but it left the abscess there which slowly refilled over time and caused further problems.

Is it possible it wasn't actually an abscess in the first place?

I don't know how it could clear up on its own? Other wise :)

@PotatoPigs Alot of an abscess is under the skin. It tends to show itself if/when it bursts. So the abscess could still be there, brewing and growing under the skin.

I'd still go to the vet to get it checked out.
