Abscess Experts Please! Is The Treatment Working?

Update: It's been two weeks of treating with Baytril and saline and although it doesn't seem to have got any worse, the problem is not fixed (as expected :(). Whenever I flush with the solution the hole opens up again.... (no smell, no discharge from it, piggy is well and has maintained weight throughout). So, back to the vets we go! Any words of advice as to what the next step should be please? I am going to suggest that it may be a cyst rather than an abscess, if the vet agrees, what sort of treatment do you think I should be offered? Many thanks in advance :)

Can't you just go & register with the new one, ask the old vet to take him off the books, then your registering him new. I can't see what there problem is. You can always say that they are the specialist vet on this forum, & what's the point of being on our list if they won't treat our piggies. I have never heard such rot as letters from vets.

I understand what you are saying @Tiamolly123 :) but my current vets are generally very good and I want to keep them on side - I have 12 animals in total (4 guinea pigs) and the current vet is 10 mins down the road rather than an hour or so into the nearest city - having to travel further afield should any of the animals require ongoing treatment or an emergency appointment would be difficult. The specialist vets are very specific on their website re treating non-registered animals but I will absolutely have this discussion with my vet if I don't get anywhere at the next appointment. I suppose what I would really like to know is what is the best course of action for a cyst so that I can go prepared with the correct questions (I will also do a quick search of the forum now) :)

That I can't tell you all I know is a cyst is hard & an abscess is smelly, I'd go & ask the present vets, advice.
Can you see a different vet in the practice or is there only one piggy vet there. If it is an abscess you need better meds than Baytrill.
