I accidentally cut the quick on my guinea pig’s nail! I didn’t notice it until a few minutes passed, and after I saw it I put flour on it. We also put Neosporin pain relief ointment on it too. So, my question is, will she be okay? Because I heard that even a little loss of blood will actually be a really big deal for a guinea pig. Thank you!

Hi!

As long as the bleeding stops within about 10 minutes, you need not worry.

See a vet as an emergency if there is a trickle of fresh blood that doesn't stop. It is thankfully very rare!

There is still blood there, but it’s dried blood, I don’t think it’s bleeding anymore.

It should be okay! Is his nails light or dark? If the bleeding stops, then there is nothing to worry about :)

Almost every single nail of my piggies are dark so I can't see the quick. I cut the quick sometimes and they're very dramatic about it but always recover quickly especially with a nice treat afterwards I'm sure your piggie will be just fine 🙂

We have all done it. And we have all felt simply dreadful afterwards. But please don’t worry. In all my years of keeping piggies the bleeding has always stopped within a few minutes. And the piggies have all recovered just fine.

I’ve done that too so whenever I do nail trimming I have some cornflour on hand.
The piggies get over it quicker than traumatised slaves

Good news! My piggie barely has any blood on her nail, it’s not very noticeable anymore, thank you for taking your time to write me advice, it was really helpful.
