Hi. As you may know, we lost Minja on Sunday :( Ginny has been eating and drinking, but I'm starting to get more worried as he appears a little less eager to do so. Going to try and get him into vet tomorrow for a general checkup (bit worried as he is sneezing a bit too often I think). He's always been very healthy physically, but I feel grief might be getting to him more now. Not sure if I'm just over worrying right now.

I really don't want to resort to syringe feeding as I feel that isn't fair on him right now and he's still eating and drinking, but in less quantities. He's been somewhat bright today but seems to have mellowed out a bit more now. Any ideas on what to do?

Get him a friend as soon as you can. That will work wonders on appetite and general outlook! Once you have ever witnessed it, it really is like magic the difference a new friend makes! ;)

Thanks :) But we have no rescues around here that have guinea pigs/sows. I think I've searched for six hours altogether and rang around but it's been a nightmare. To be honest, I'm looking for a sow or two for Ginny until he passes, which is why I'm looking for a great rescue I could revert them back to. It feels cold of me, but I can't afford the vet bills as much as I really love guinea pigs, so (sorry to sound cheap) I'll probably go on to foster after if just to have guinea pigs in the house. I'm feeling hopeless in this situation to be honest.

Still nothing. Ginny is still eating and drinking thankfully. I'm absolutely clueless about what to do. I briefly considered rehoming but (most likely my bias interfering as well) he's been here just about all his life and at his old age I don't want to shuffle him around everywhere if I can't promise a forever home.

Have asked others to keep an eye out for rescues or fostering, but it seems fairly deserted around here for rescues or long term foster

I looked but to be honest I've realised I have no idea how to work either site lol - looking for rescues, anyway. Do I just scroll through pages in my area in search for a name of a rescue?

I'd love to, unfortunately three hours and half away so hope it's ok to consider another rescue first? Recently recommended a nearby one that seems hopeful and have found three girls :) Thanks in any case though ! Appreciate it

Back again. RSPCA said to consider adopting from P@H adoption part as no piggies in, nor for foster. However, I would like to express I am mainly looking for another piggy, preferably two, I can give back to a trusted rescue after Ginny has passed as afterwards I would be mainly looking to do foster. I really don't mean to sound cold. I would be willing to travel as long as it's a good, trusted rescue

I just wanted to add that you do not sound cold at all.
You sound sensible and realistic, and have clearly been honest about your options.

I think the situation you are in is tricky, and it certainly can't be unusual?
Here in Switzerland, because it is illegal to own a single guinea pig (except under extraordinary circumstances) a lot of breeders operate an official 'loan pig' scheme. The ensures that no piggie has to live alone, but also helps owners who feel they don't want to continue the ongoing cycle of buying or adopting more pigs.

You don't buy or own the loan pig - you just sign a contract to say you will care for them properly, and return them when they loose their companion.

Thank you. Ah, I wish so much that applied here! It's such an amazing law. I'll look up if there are any loan schemes in England :) thanks
Two of my piggys are from pets at home adoption (although one I had contact with previous owner) the process is lovely and they call to see if they are getting on okay :)
