hello,

my boyfriend won't understand this so i thought i would see what peoples opinions are on here!

when my little Jimmy died back in february i was able to bond all my piggies together so now they all live in one cage. i did spend a while after this all happened wanting to fill the empty cage that i now had but after thinking about it sensibly i decided that it was better to spend the money that i put aside each month for the animals on the ones that i had rather than stretching myself financially by getting anymore.

i also have a ferret and a cat. Stoops the ferret did have a friend many years ago but she died shortly after we got Stoops and when she died he didn't seem to miss her at all. when i had clover and boris and boris died clover really pined which is why i got stoops.

anyway stoops is 5 this month and he spends most of the day sleeping. he isn't exactly a softy as he does like to nip! i have never been able to train him out of it! i think i am rambling so sorry! i went onto the local rspca sight and saw a ferret called gypsy that is friendly and was found wandering outside but no one has claimed her. something about looking at the picture of her felt different than all the other adoptees that i have seen and i feel like i want to phone up the rescue centre and talk to them about her but i know that it would pee my boyfriend off! i think that getting a one year old ferret might be a bad idea as i don't want to go through the cycle of an old and new one again, but i can't stop thinking about her.

has anyone else ever felt like this about an animal before?

forgot to mention that i live on a narrow boat and i don't know if the rscpa will rehome animals to people that don't have an address! :)

awww that is sweet.

not sure the RSPCA will let you have him though, they can be a bit funny at times. They told us we had too much land (3.5 acres) to take a dog even though it was all dog proofed.

it's just strange that i keep thinking about this little girl. i wasn't even looking for a ferret but i saw the picture of her and i just felt really strange inside. i know it probably doesn't make sense!

we have hand built cages for the boat. my ferret has 3 sleeping compartments, hammocks and ramps. his hammocks come from www.ferretcouture.com they have some amazing stuff on there and it's all handmade. he even has a special ferret bag for when he goes out walking. it has skull and crossbones on it made out of sequins! :))

I know exactly what you mean! Some animals just seem to stand out to you and you can't get them out of your mind. I think though as you say that Stoops wasn't too bothered when he lost his pal and he is older I would try to be tough and not go for her if you don't want the older/younger cycle. Lol, but I'm one to talk, as i can't seem to follow that advice when something needs a home!
I had the same **** when getting a dog from the RSPCA years ago. Our house was a cottage on a remote farm and wasn't fenced adequately. Good luck with whateber you decide:)

I felt like this about one of my piggies Elvis. I wasnt looking for any more piggies when I stumbled across the rescue centre he was in but when I left there I couldnt get him out of my head. He was quite poorly so wasnt allowed to be reserved but I kept phoning and emailing about him to see how he was and was eventually told he was ready to be reserved. I just had to have him. He is happily the king of his castle here now with 6 girlfriends :)
I dont know how rescue would be about rehoming to a narrowboat but no harm in asking

thanks guys. its always when your not looking that something comes up! my boyfriend was expecting us to end up with more guineas buy the end of the year as we have a spare guinea hutch but i don't think he was thinking we would end up with another ferret!

i love my little stoops to bits but i think my boyfriend has always been a bit aprehensive of him because he is so nippy. he doesn't mean it agressivly he just wants to play! my last ferret Clover used to sit on Steve's shoulder and groom his beard. there is no way you could do that with Stoops! :)p

maybe this Gyspy girl could be the barber your boyfriend misses!

As for the RSPCA, I would invite them to check the set-up and welfare of your pets so they can judge for themselves what a loving home they may be turning down...

are you sure they didnt want you to have a horse or two instead....:(|)

al
rspca west suffolk....no i cannot comment about other rspca rescue centres and their needs...

thanks for your opinions i will have a think!

attached is a picture i took of my little one last night. the reason he looks like he is squinting is because his eyelid never grew properly so he looks like he is squinting all the time. his other is fine and he can see perfectly well out of each eye :)

Stoops is absolutely gorgeous! such strange markings!

I rescue/take on unwanted ferrets and I would say if you have the space and you are willing to take on another ferret for at least the 5-10 years they will live then why not? my advice to you is take Stoops along to your local ferret rescue and they will try him with a number of different ferrets and see which one he chooses :)

I don't think living on the boat will make a bit of difference as to me if you have Stoops & his play mate out for run abouts or walks on a harness then they are getting all they need and many rescues will rehome to flat owners with no garden so I don't see your accomadation is any different to a flat :)

thanks for all your lovely comments. i know my boyfriend loves the animals but it's nice to get a point of view from other people who are totally obsessed about their pets!

just been back to have a look at the website and Gypsy has gone. guess it wasn't meant to be :)

Roxy you have pm :)
