Hi,

As some of you are aware that I am currently looking and hoping to adopt some piggies. But having no luck so far, have e-mailed several rescues. There many suitable piggies out there but unfortunately they are too far from me. :(

Is it wrong of me to 'rescue' guinea-pigs from free-ads? I've seen so many that need new loving home near me for no fault of their own. I just feel really bad as they deserve a permanent loving home and I could potentially give them everything they need. But the downsize is they are not from rescue centers!?

Please let me know what you think? Also what I should do.

Remember Revolver has been on her own for just over 3 months now, and I really really feel bad and crap. I have been searching and trying my hardest to find 'suitable ones' in rescue centres but like I said they are far from me.

So I am reallly tempted and wanting to 'rescue' piggies that I have seen from free ads.

But the problem is I don't know how to bond guinea-pigs?

I'd appreciate any advice or feedbacks.

Thank-you
Lessie.

No, it's not wrong of you, butt I would recommend quarantine any free ad pigs first and fore most. Too make sure they are healthy.

Free-ad pigs need rescued too :), were are you in England? Maybe someone here's knows of some lonely pigs. Also we can get them to you from further a field with a piggy train if it's ok with rescue.

I got my girls from England when I stayed in Belfast by piggy train.

Is revolver a boy? Am thinking he is, I apologise if he is a she.

If you can't find ones in rescues then I'd get ones from free ads. Or join a guinea pig forum that has breeders on and buy one maybe? If you feel that's ok for you. It'd be a lot better than a pet shop anyway if it was a good breeder.

I have the same problem, since I live in the south of Ireland. I wanted two guinea pigs since I had one whose friend died. There aren't any small animal rescues in my county that I could find, there's one about an hour's drive away but they only rehome to indoor homes. And I couldn't even find any in free ads, so I had to buy in pet shops. :( Which I will never do again, unless it is a brilliant pet shop, and I've found a great pet shop actually :) They don't seem to be very popular in Ireland?

I don't think you'd be a bad person for buying from free ads, since those guinea pigs need good homes too. And your pig needs a friend :)

Revolver's a girl! Don't worry about it everyone thinks she's a he!

If I were to rescue an adult guinea-pig from free ad, I would get her or him checked out by a vet first.

But what about young guinea-pigs?

I think it's a great idea to offer a home to any piggy in need, so free ads is a good way to go.
As Joanne said it's a good idea to quarantine a pig when you are unsure of its history (even baby guineas could have mites or fungal problems). Also, are you confident in sexing guinea pigs? Just so you don't get any surprises. :)

This is Wiebke's thread on introductions.
