My little guinea pig Sugar is oozing purple but i have no idea why it would be purple....Her fur's all purple around her private area and half way up her tummy. She does have a cist right under her nipple and its purple there too, i dont know if the cist might be causing some sort of purple ooze to come out because the cist is causing her little nipple to bulge out a little, or the 2nd most obvious place it could be coming out is her private area, but why in the world would it be "purple"? you can totally tell it's PURPLE not red, brown, or yellow, but "Purple". Plus she hasnt been up and running around like usual, i can tell she's lost quite a bit of weight, i've noticed she hasn't been eating or drinking much, and her poops not normal at all...it's all brownish yellow and watery...I'm so worried!
Can someone tell me whats wrong with my little piggie?
8...

Hi GPluver ... sorry to read that your piggy seems unwell.
Obviously most of us on here are not vets and can only advise on our own experiences.

It sounds like you need to get your piggy to a vet as soon as possible to get expert help to find out what is wrong. Guinea pigs can deteriorate very quickly so a rapid diagnosis is really important.

Please keep us posted.

I don't want to panic you needlessly, and obviously I agree with the general consensus that a vet is always the best bet when you're unsure about something, but I have a friend who has had many (many many many) guinea pigs in the past, and when confronted with the issue of a guinea pig vomiting purple ooze, was told it was stomach acid.

If it's coming out the other end completely though, goodness knows what it might be, perhaps something she ate reacted oddly with her urine?

Sorry to throw around theories without actually being much help!

Guinea Pigs do not have the reflux to be able to vomit, maybe it was saliva that was purple?...

I would get your piggie to a vet before it is too late, please

Well, the word she used when telling me the story was 'spewing', but I thought that sounded a little nasty, so I elaborated!

Either way, perhaps it is a diet related issue? Eaten something or chewed on something bad?

Yeah, She isn't vomiting purple ooze, its coming out the other end...
Unless you're talking about your friends guinea pig right now:{

There is a purplish coloured lump by her nipple? Often this discolouration and a swelling is a mammary tumour, and with the discharge (likely from the nipple) it sounds very suspicious of one to me. Most mammary tumours are benign, but will need surgically removing, especially if it is at the stage you describe.

Diarrhea is dangerous when it is as bad as you describe, and when the piggie is not eating, drinking, is lethargic and losing weight, you have a very poorly piggie on your hands. Overall, your piggie really needs a vet urgently, preferably a cavy-savvy one. Home treatment may help see her through a few hours but it won't pull her through until her condition is dealt with. Are any of these vets near you? http://www.guinealynx.info/cabinet/index.php/Veterinarians_Florida

Please do keep us updated.

She's doing ok :) , still pretty much the same but doing better...she's eating her veggies, but not her pellets and not too much water...poops hardened up just a little bit...but shes still purple...And the ooz isn't coming from her nipple...so now I'm sure its from her private area...although shes doing just a bit better, I'm still worried about her weight, the purple ooz, and her energy :( ...All three of my other piggies are up and running around except for her...she just stays in her little house untill i bring in the veggies...atleast shes eating the veggies, I'm glad about that, but still worried about the purpleness and her energy...:( this is stressing me out :laluot_08:

Guinea pigs don't usually have the ability to vomit, but I had a piggy who did vomit - I know because I witnessed it. He had reflux for 5 years & had to be treated with medication. That said, it was only the normal green mush from his mouth & not anything purple in colour.

My mom said she doesn't want to spend that much money on a guinea pig :aLJFBQ00151070111C: I dont want to lose my little pig 8...

In the UK it is illegal NOT to get medical treatment for animals when it is needed. I don't know about the laws in the US, but your mom is in the wrong here. She is responsible for the guinea pig if you are a minor (under 16 ), so it is her responsibility to ensure the pig is looked after and treated by a vet when necessary.

If your mom won't get vet treatment, then unfortunately the pig will have to be given up to someone - a shelter, rescue or veterinary organisation - who will do what is needed for this pig and rehome the pig to someone who is willing to provide every need. I know it wouldn't be fair to you to have to give the pig up just because your mom won't take responsibility and get to a vet, but you have got to do what it best for the guinea. It is all about the guinea pig. It would be unfair and negligent to allow the pig to suffer when you know the animal needs medical help.

Maybe you could speak to your mum about working something out? Perhaps if you don't have the money needed now, she could pay for the urgent vet treatment needed and then maybe you could pay her a bit back week by week out of pocket money if that makes things easier? In the future, maybe it would be a good idea to save a bit of money up and keep it by for emergency vet treatment - you never know when these things are going to strike.
I hope things are sorted out soon.

You must explain to your mum that she is causing unnecessary suffering to an animal who is totally dependent on you.

She can't possibly know how much seeing the vet is going to cost yet. Has she checked it out? Very often things aren't as bad as they first appear.

If all you do is get the piggie to the vets to have her put to sleep then it is better than doing nothing.

Nobody here on the forum is in anyway able to help you - you need a VET and soon.

I'm sure your mum won't want to see you upset or distressed. It's important for you to explore every way in which to get your piggie to the vets. I'm not sure how old you are, but perhaps paying half and half for the bill? Try and explain that a trip to the vet isn't just for your piggie - it will make you calmer and less upset too.
I hope things work out.

You'll have to let her know how unfair it is letting an animal suffer. I know this isn't the same as taking your piggie to the vets but keep the wound clean with warm salt water and clean it 2-3 days a day. If you have any oral antibiotics in the house for your piggie like baytril then start syringing her this (if it's in date). Maybe over the next 24 hours you could carry on nagging your mum about how important it is to treat your piggie. I'm sure if it was a family member she wouldn't want them to go untreated and pets are part of the family. This is not directed at you but your mum. Obviously you're in an awkward position at the moment but please keep nagging. Is there anyway you could take your piggie to the vet without your mum knowing and explain the circumstances and maybe they might treat her anyway and let you pay the money off in installments?

Ok my piggie doesnt have a wound, soooo theres no way i can clean it with warm salt water...and my mom said she wont take her to the vet because she just wanted to wait a few days to see if things got better, if they got worse she would take her, i know she would cause my mum is absolutely crazy about the piggies :)) and she wouldn't be able to see her suffer like that and neither could i...And GOOD NEWS: Sugar is up and running, drinking her water, and eating again, I'm so happy! :laluot_18: But her fur's still a little stained from the purple...Any ideas on how i could get the stain out since she's white? :))

Maybe trim the fur a little and just let it grow out? My Pearl is white but she gets grubby so quickly.

Ive actually tried all three and she's still purple :...

Is the skin tinged purple, or is it *just* the discharge that has stained the hair?

If the purple discharge was coming from her vagina, I would get her checked out ASAP as it sounds like it could be a serious reproductive disorder.

Well if the purple discharge isn't coming out anymore, would i still need to get her looked at? Since this stopped last week and shes doing fine now:)
And yes it's just her fur thats stained, not her skin

The fact that this occurred at all suggests that something has gone wrong somewhere internally. Whether it has 'cleared up' on its own or not, something went wrong with your piggie and you need to know what, either to prevent a recurrance or to ensure it is cured properly.

I agree. It's always best to get something checked out just to be safe especially if it's out of character or unusual.
