Earlier this week my guinea pig had stopped eating dry food and only ate a small amount of veg. We saw no poos in his cage so we took him to the vet she gave him 2 injections and prescribed some metoclopramide to take twice a day and metacam once a day. She also gave me syringe food to feed him with every 2 hours. I fed him this syringe food and water for the last 2 days and he has started pooing more but is still reluctant to eat anything on his own and I am stuck on what to do shall I keep syringe feeding him or wait to see if he'll eat on his own?

Also since I have been syringe feeding him over the past couple days he has increased in weight by around 70g

There is always a medical problem that causes a piggy not to eat. To work out what it is you will need to take him back to the vet. As your vet hasn't looked into other reasons already then I would suggest you find another vet, preferably a guinea pig specialist.

The vet will need to check his teeth in the first instance, including the back ones. Because if he has any problems with them then he won't be able to eat even if he wanted to. They will also check around his mouth and throat to see if there are any lumps causing him not to want to eat if he is in pain. A vet may want to xray, or scan him.

It could be other things, such as an infection, or bloat. Again, a good guinea pig vet will be able to help you.

In the meantime, continue to syringe feed him the dry food as he will need food going through his system at all times. Good luck!

Update he is eating his veggies and hay but not his dry food pellets should I just give him more time to recover as findings guinea pig specialist vet for a price we can afford would be difficult right now
