hiya i was just wondering if anyone can help with couple of questions please?ok firstly i find that the wood shavings are sticking to my swiss piggies fur which cant be very nice would carefresh be better?as i dont really want to use towels.and also as we are keeping them inside for the winter i find the hay has a really strong smell i use the pets at home one!is there any other hay that doesnt have such a strong smell.any help would be great thankyou.:)

Carefresh will be messy to use and will stick too. Fleece or vet bed would be good if you want to avoid things sticking. Sadly hay gives off a smell no matter what type you use.

I can only smell the hay in close range but nut when they are in the cage.

I would strongly recommend trying fleece or vetbed with longhaired guinea pigs - it amkes a lot of difference.

Good hay should have a lovely fresh scent - any hay that doesn't smell isn't worth feeding. Unfortunately for you, hay should make 50-80% of a piggy's diet and there is no way around it. Timothy hay is best for keeping the guts moving; the piggies need to eat a bit more of the other varieties for the same effect.

With fleece, you best have a plastic box with a rim at least 3-5 inches high in order to prevent the hay going everywhere.

ok thanks for your replies.so where would i buy vet bed from and does it just go thro the washer.and just normal fleece blankets?thankyou.

You buy can vet bed it in pet shops but it is much cheaper on ebay. It goes in the washing machine. Have a look at the vet bed review sticky. I don't think it is that much better than fleece after it has gone clumpy the first time it is washed. It is quite expensive, even on ebay.

You can pick up cheap fleece throws all over the place. I buy mine from Dunelm Mill for £3-4 but you can also get them in supermarkets, poundstretchers, etc. :)

thats great i will certainly be trying fleece and will check out the price for vet bed.thankyou everyone.:))
