Hi all. My 4.5 year old boar Eric is ill today. Off his food, sitting in corner looking rather uncomfortable. He has been putting on weight and seems rather bloated. What could this be? Anything I can give him or just leave him be for now? He had a bit of a long car journey today so maybe he's just out of sorts? But as I said, he seems a bit bloated and puffed up. Squeals at his mate to stay away a bit too. Help much appreciated!

He may have a touch of bloat. Flick his sides and if they sound hollow then it more than likely is. Crush one chewable rennie and mix with some water and syringe. Leave for about 20 mins and then massage his sides to try and move gas/air. Leave outhe green veg for a few days after and start him on just dry food and hay.

I lost him. He wasn't good overnight and was in pain. We took him to the vet who confirmed ascites. If I'd taken him back home he would have died in a day or two. I had to make the decision to let him go to sleep. I feel so awful, but I know he had had enough. He kept putting his head down on my hand and was very uncomfortable. I miss him so so much, but he is playing over the rainbow bridge now I hope. I love you Eric x

I'm sorry he didn't make it... but he's over the Rainbow Bridge by now, I'm sure, looking down on his mummy. 8...

I am really sad for you. You must feel awful, but you have done the right thing. Poor little mite - at least he is not suffering now.

So sorry for your loss. I know you must be feeling really sad.

I must be ignorant ..... what is ascites ?

Thanks guys. Ascites happens with cancer for example. It's a build up of fluid. Eric was looking very bloated where the fluid had built up inside him. I think the vet said it was either due to a tumour or his liver not working any longer. He looked very tired and sad poor baby. I know he's better off now, but I miss him so badly.

I'm so sorry to hear about little Eric. Take peace knowing he is no longer suffering xx
