we went to our local p&h this afternoon and in the adoption section they had this beautifull boar called basil x) it said he was a store pig and he gets too excited arround others so must be housed alone he also has 2 bites out of his 1 ear. the advice i would like is do you think that once he was de plumed he would be able to live with my girls? he was so pretty hes white and grey and beige/cream with red eyes x)

i dont know about when plumbing sorted as i only have boys

i got jake from p@h cas someone took him back as they said he was a hand full he wasn't & isnt at all like that so dont belive all they tell you

bites out of ears sounds like he's been bullied but not sure someone else will come along & help you out on that xx

I can't see a problem with trying him with females once he has been done. Poor little man.

well i am going to give them a ring as it didnt say on the info when he was ready and when i asked a member of staff he didnt no anything only what it says already grrrr useless lol he said if i come back in the week a member of management should be able to tell me more ;)

will keep fingers crossed for you really hoping it all works out x>>

thinking if he's in the adoption bit he should be ready to go as when i went to my local p@h they said piggies would be in the adoption bit the following week as not ready to go yet

really hope you can bring him home with you & spoil him rotten :p

well they had 4 others that where in a group of 4 and they said they would be available from 10th feb but thease where braught in from some one who couldnt keep them and basil was an ex store pig but the kad was on about quarantine and said he probably wasnt ready yet but i dont think he knew he was x store pig. i have never had any pet from pets at home other than a fish which died after 3 days so i am a little nervous and excited lol what a pickle to get in to :)

jake's from p@h & he's been with me for nearly 2 years someone took him back i think hes about 2 & a half he's so laid back & sweet xx

all 4 of my piggies are from p@h and have never had any problems at all, one was from adoption. they also offer vet treatment for first few weeks.

you will probalby find he will love living with girls - my louis hated boys and just could't live with any, but he soon found love with Lucy after he had the chop!

ben doesnt like living with boys but i have 5 boys with their manhood in tact so wouldnt be fait to bring a girl in xx

i thought he would probably be fine with the girlies i guess i will just have to tell a couple of little white lies to get him i was going to wait to get a boar but i think you know when the right one comes along if you no what i mean i have very easily walked away from others but this one just tugged at my heart strings x) i am definately going back tomorrow i should realy call first as its 8 miles one way from me i wont sleep tonight lol

you always know when its the right piggie x>>

when i lost my beckham i said i would never have another black piggie as would remind me to much of him but when i met ben he snuggled in & that was it he came home with me :p

will keep fingers crossed you get him tomorrow tell as many lies as you need to get that boy out with you xx

ok i have basil at home now but when they were checking him over they discovered his 2 top teeth looked like they had snapped off but he was eating fine and i did witness him eating i have weighed him and he is arround 600g and roughly 4 months old i weighed him and he is a little skittish so it was going over and under the 600g mark they said if i take him too the vet they will pay for costs ect so a vet check is the next step :...

up date he is boooked in

i have booked him in with my vet for 10 am tomorrow morning so fingers crossed

congrats on getting Basil :aJFBQ00150070111B:

shouldn't be a problem with his front teeth as they grow back quickly

just caught the last message. Fabby news on getting Basil!

when I got Steven from PAH rescue (5 year-old boar handed in cos his brother had died and now he was just 'doing nuffink' according to prev owners), they told me he'd not been handled much so was likely to be a bit wild.... well I've never seen such a placid, gentle and calm 'wild' animal. We put him on our run while waiting for Nutmeg to collect him and he just sat there, trotting here and there and came for green beans taking them out of my hands.... Now, it took me months to teach that trick to my 2 and I've had them since they were babies!

It is possible that PAH make things sound worse than they are so people who adopt are not surprised if they don't get a cuddly lap piggy straight away. Either that or they haven't got a clue!rolleyes

I am glad that you got your Basil and am keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes well with his op!

He will be one very happy boy once he has recovered and can join his girls.

My Llewelyn asks me to tell Basil that it was worth it!

thanx every one for your messages 8... hes been biking around already i will get some pics of him when hes more settled. hes been eating i have given him a small amount of salad and nuggets so i dont over well him as he never had any salad or veg in p&h only there nuggets. he has come out and been exploring my girlies have been more quiet than usual allthough they did shout for there break fast x) lol
