blossom has been on antibiotics for a week after having her babies and being poorly. she had diarrhea for a day during the time she was on her meds but this cleared up. she now has it again. she seems really bright and alert and wanting to eat - even out of my hand which is a real breakthrough with her. i shall be taking her to the vets but was wondering if it could be her food and the fact that she was unwell after having the babies. she had a bad case of mites which of cause couldn't be treated while she was pregnant. this and the pregnancy really dragged her down. any ideas would be appreciated.

Which anitibiotic is she on? Baytril is well known to cause diarrhea. perhaps switching to another one like septrin may help?

Are you giving her probiotics to help keeping the guts going? Please ask your vet to give you some if you don't yet.

Take her off all fresh veg and have her just on hay.

Mush up some pellets and offer those to mum and babies in a bowl to help top up their diet.

it was baytril that she was on. she finished that 2 days ago. i'll do what you suggest with her food and hay and see how she goes. thanks for replying.

Make sure she's not dehydrated too - gently pinch the flesh on the back of her neck (the nape) if it springs back to her body, she's drinking enough. If not, try syringing a little water - I have mixed a tiny amount of Dioralyte when my boy was ill on Baytril, it replaces the lost electrolytes.
Hope Blossom feels better soon, these blooming antibiotics really can knock them about :(

she is drinking plenty and does not appear dehydrated at all. she is really perky in herself. hopefully it is simply the antibiotics which she has finished now so once they are out of her system i'm hoping she will be ok. i'll keep you informed as to how she goes on. thanks for the advice. it is appreciated. sally
