This is Dylan 5 days after his first course of ivermectin. Is this how he should be looking? He was still scratching a lot, up until today really. As you can see there's quite a lot of hair loss  I feel awful having home treated him with beaphar instead of going straight to the vets :(

The first days of mites treatment are usually worst as the poisoned mites tend to wiggle and cause even more discomfort. Things usually calm down very much after the second round, and the third (or potentially fourth) round is just a clean-up to make sure that any emergency straggling eggs have been caught. Because the skin is very painful and inflamed, it is not adivsable to bath or cream; it can lead to fitting.

You can give him a very gentle bath after 3 days of the last treatment to help remove any itchy dead skin. Thankfully, the hair will grow back quite quickly, and within a month you will no longer have any bald patches. ;)
