He's been diagnosed with either UTI or bladder stones. The vet mentioned the fact she couldn't find any stones, but she gave us some painkillers, antibiotics and fibreplex. I was told that if after 14 days (10 for painkillers and 14 for antibiotics) he was still unwell, to come back for an ultrasound.
All is going well so far, however he hasn't eaten hardly, if any, pellets. But he has eaten quarter of a pepper and bucket loads of hay. Is my boy being picky or could this be something to worry about?
Also, he doesn't seem to be drinking much. I tried measuring the water bottle, however the bottle drips every few minutes so I found it difficult to see if he's drinking or not. What are some signs of dehydration?
And sorry for this extra question, but since he's not eating his pellets, is there any temporary home made dinner recipe's I could use for him? X
Thank you! x

Hi! I wouldn't worry a lot if he's offhis pellets at the moment; he's in a fair bit of discomfort at the moment, but he should be better once the painkiller and (which?) antibiotic kicks in. There is plenty of fibre in fibreplex.

To help with flushing out the bacteria, you can feed a bit dandelion, cucumber and lettuce; they are all mildy diuretic. Don't go overboard, though, or he will end up with diarrhea. The veg will also help with the watering problem. Intake of water is individually very different.

I agree as long as he is eating his hay that is the main thing. My Maddie has a stone and we are making sure we get plenty of fluids into her and she is on pain relief and Marbocyl antibiotic. What has your boy been given?

I have a boar with a kidney stone & bladder issues - he hardly ever drinks - unless you syringe feed it to him - lazy little toad!

Glad this is 'normal' x and the antibiotics are 'baytril' and the pain relief is 'metacam'.
Harv lovveeesss the fibreplex! X and hope your piggies get better soon as well! x
Thanks for calming my worries. I'm just very over the top at the moment since Loki passed x

He hasn't eaten anything all night, and hardly touched his hay. Should I ground some pellets and add a little water so I can syringe feed him?

Yes definitely, have you syringe fed before? Is he pooing at at all?

See if you can get your hands on some Critical Care to syringe feed. It has all the good stuff your pig needs, and can make all the difference in the world. I personally believe it has saved my Pig George's life when he went off his food. Usually have to get it from the vet, but I think you can order it online.

Thank you! X I'll look online. For now, will water and pellet mix in a syringe do? X

Yes any food is better than no food. I kepr lacey going with pellet mash. It is important to keep the guts moving with guineas.

He's eating his pellets on his own!
So glad he's finally eating!
It's not much that he did eat, but little is better than none! X
