Hi. I'm new to looking after guinea pigs. We adopted 2 neutered male piggies nearly 3 weeks ago. They have lived in the same hutch together since they were born nearly a year ago.

This morning one became very aggressive to the other, not letting him into their bedroom. The RSPCA shelter we got them from suggested putting them in the run to see what happened. After a few minutes they started fighting - scary - and we've separated them - 1 in the hutch and 1 in the run.

Has anyone got any ideas or advice on what to do next? I really want to keep them together and we don't have another hutch to keep them separated tonight.

Thanks for the tip, Niki. I've looked at Susie's site and will try a few things out.

yeah if they dont get along its an excuse to get two more! ;)

Things might be starting to look up! We put them in the run with a divider so they could see, touch, smell each other. After a bit of teeth chattering they started to try to get close and settle down nose-to-nose. Maybe absence makes the heart grow fonder after all. :smitten: After a while we took the divider out and they seemed more like their old selves again - a bit tentative and more alert. We had a bit more teeth chattering but distraction via food bowls and a brussel sprout took their minds off it.

They're now back in their hutch and stayed in the bedroom part together for a while but one (Daphne) is now sitting on the ramp - don't think the other (Velma) wnats him in their. We've bought two of everything now and put loads of hay downstairs, so if Daphne wants (or needs) to sleep there, he can.

I know they have girl's names - they are boys (i've checked) but we have a 4 year old who is mad on Scooby-Doo! ;D

If I was you I would block the top off with a board and give them seperate living space if they are fighting. Give them the run with the divider in during the day at least that way they do have company but are safe from harm when you not around.

Daphne seems to have taken over the bottom part so we're thinking of doing exactly that and making two separates hutches. Then we might get 2 sows so they each have company - and I can have 2 more piggys
