I keep seeing these and the pet store people tried to talk me into getting one, insisting guinea pigs just love them. They are called "Snack Shaks" and I looked at the ingredients and it is made of alfalfa and honey and is "100% Edible"...Now alfalfa hay is not good for them except under certain circumstances (young, pregnant, etc...). So are these dangerous or okay to use for healthy adult guinea pigs?

I'm not sure, our gps had one for a long while, but then they said it was too sweet for them and that we had to take it out of their home. They were/are still little so if anyone can give better advice, Id be interested aswell. >.<

They cost a lot and the piggies don't really want to eat them - that's our experience. We bought a hut type for a Christmas pressie for the herd and they ate the top roof bit but the brown walls part is still there. There are toothmarks, but it hasn't really been eaten. I don't think they like the taste much, probably too sweet.

We use it now to put their hay into, to stop it going everywhere. But I would never buy another in that range. Except possibly for my hamster and mice, who would love to chew it!

I had a hut too and they completely demolished the roof but didn't touch the walls. Even without roof they enjoyed sleeping in it but after a certain time it just looked really disgusting. I wouldn't buy another one either.

Well my gp actually ate most of it. They loved it. Thats all you would hear at night mostly, and they enjoyed sleeping in it aswell. But we were told that it was bad for them so yeah we took it out.

okay! Thanks guys, I think I won't get one...somehow I have this fear that she will get it wet one way or another and it will get sticky and mat her hair up.

One of these came in with some piggies here, and as others have said, they ate the roof but not the rest, but they do love using it as a hidey hold. They seem hugely over-priced to me - carboard tubes from a carpet shop (free) are loved more by my lot!

Here at Wal-Mart they are $5, which isn't bad, but yeah, cardboard boxes are Free ;)

I think the pet store charged $12.99 for the one my Mom bought for the little ones, and they do love hiding in it.

Buttercup has one in her cage as it seems that is pretty much the only thing she is really interested in chewing. I put chew toys and wood blocks in her cage (as well as Truffles) and they just urinate on them and don;t chew them. sure when I first put them in sometimes they show interest and then after a few seconds, "okay this thing is boring, NEXT!"

So Buttercup has one and she munches and scrapes her teeth on it alot and I am glad she likes it as it was like 12 or 13 dollars for it. I am afraid that if she didn;t have it, her teeth would get too long.
