I haven't tried it, but alfalfa is generally used for babies under 6-8 months and adult guinea pigs who need to gain weight - with older guinea pigs it should always be used as little as possible as I think the calcium content is too high for it to be a regular part of their diet :)

I was just wondering if anyone if feeding grass/alfalfa chop to their pigs? It's made and sold for horses by Top Spec, but I've tried grass chop the my pigs seems to really like it. http://www.topspec.com/products/topchop-grass/

They also have alfalfa chop available, but I'm not sure if guinea pigs can eat alfalfa?

I'd be nice to know what your thoughts are :)

I'd be reluctant to use this due to the additional things added to it (soya oil etc.) and in terms of alfalfa, as already mentioned, too high in calcium to feed to adult pigs regularly.

Have you tried readigrass, graze-on or pure grass? all similar products, but just dried grass, nothing added. Should be fed in moderation due to calorie content though!

Mine get a handful of the Top Chop grass twice a week and love it. All the other suppliers mentioned have limited or no stocks left - bad year last and nothing growing this year yet. Top Chop is still available as it's the most expensive compared to the other brands so is the last to be used. Can't see a problem with Soya Oil - it's in most guinea pig foods, including Excel.

As a treat I think it's fine and more so because there is no chance of the piggies going on the fresh grass outside at the moment :(

True, I can't find readigrass anywhere locally. So I'm sticking with the Top Spec grass. They have been getting it 2-3 times a week and they really like it! I personally love the smell of it too!
