I need to order some hay this week but I'm not sure what to get.

Sammy and Lucky currently LOVE alfalfa king timothy hay, if I put the other timothy hay we have in their hay rack it gets ignored until I put some alfalfa king in.

So I was going to get a 4.5kg bag for them but I'm worried they will get bored of it. They do get bored of hays quickly.

I'm thinking about buying a bag of oxbow's Timothy hay. I'm not sure what it looks like though. Is it in thin or thick pieces?

We had some Timothy hay a while ago that was in very thin pieces and they didn't eat much of it. However we have some Orchard grass hay right now and they love it so I'm not sure if the size matters to them?

Which hay do everyone's piggies prefer?

Why not switch between varieties of meadow, orchard or timothy hay? All are fine for guinea pigs!

My piggies eat oxbow Timothy hay almost exclusively. I switch up the grass hays as a treat but they get bored of them quickly. I order a 25 ln box online I think that's 11.4 kg. It's almost always all really green (sometimes I bit of brown in the middle of the box) and my girls love it. I order from dr foster and smith online but idk if that's skit in the US, they have great prices.

That's what I do, but they have other hays as well.
I just wanted to see what everyone's guinea pigs prefer and I was hoping someone who uses oxbow timothy can tell me what it looks like.

I don't use it, so I can't help you on that score!

Aww, it's good that they like it! :)
Mine get timothy from timothyhay.co.uk as their main hay but they love having alfalfa king timothy hay in it! :)
Mine don't mind the brown bits :)
I think I will get the 500g or the 1.1kg bag and a 4.5kg bag of alfalfa king and some other treat jays, I can never decide what to get when it comes to hay! I usually end up spending waaaay too much on it :D

I haven't heard of that website. Viovet have good prices in the UK but their customer service is terrible.
I like the products hayexperts offer but they are a bit overpriced :)

Oxbow Timothy Hay tends to be more expensive, but it also has less seed heads in it (the fluffy pieces) which aren't the best if a pig suffers from calcium problems. They're both very similar otherwise, lovely and green, and smells great.

I tend to get the Alfalfa King Timothy Hay as it's cheaper, but I'd had Oxbow a few times when the Alfalfa King hay was out of stock

I usually order Alfalfa King but the Hay Experts sent me Oxbow by mistake this month and it seems a lot softer. Could be this particular harvest though as usually our Orchard grass is soft but that was stalky this month. My pigs do seem to like both the Alfalfa King and the Oxbow timothy hay though.

I think it depends on how many seed heads are in there, as they tend to have the tougher stalks on them. Oxbow usually have less so it looks more like grass
