Hi everyone. Me and my two girls are due to move back to my parents house soon. Both my girls are indoor piggies. The problem is, my mum was piggie sitting while i was away for 10 days there and the hay/sawdust etc is killing her hafever. Is there any sawdust and hay I can buy that will not be so harsh on her hayfever?

Thankyou

I am using shredded ardboard which is dust free, but have not found dust free hay yet. I give my piggies as much long fresh grass as possible .

Def look for an alternative dust free bedding for the piggies. There are a good few out there on the market. Personally I use all bed.

There are a good few dust extracted hays also on the market. I don't have much experiance of the various types. I don't like the Pets At Home one at all, it had me sneezing away. Excel seems pretty good; I'm sure others can advise as to what's best.

Ask your Mum to get some antihystamines for her to take. She may only need to take them for the first few weeks; most likely she will find she'll build up a tolerance to the piggies, their hay etc in time.

Thanks everyone. have used alternatives to sawdust ie fleece, but i found this hard to maintain. my mum takes meds for her asthma and hayfever, but still seems to kill her. i'll try the dustfree hay to see how this goes.

I didn't like fleece at all either; so went for a dust free equine bedding - much less hassle in my opinion with less smell.

Might be worth your mum popping to her Drs to see if they can give her an alternative antihystamine that works better for her.

The Dust Free Hay is great. I have a pig with allergies and I get hayfever and we're both much better with this hay. Worth changing the woodshavings as well as they are known to cause respitory problems in some pigs so probably isn't helping your mums asthma either. Megazorb or Carefresh will be similar to woodshavings but not so dusty.
