Hi. I'm growing loads in the garden this year and can't find anywhere if peas including stems, leaves, pods and peas are ok and also the same for runner beans and broad beans? Does anyone know if any of these are safe for my little babies?

Mange tout and pods are OK, but not the peas themselves. The same goes for green beans. Please de-string in case something gets stuck between the teeth.

So if I de string pea pods and take out the peas they can have them? Does the same go for runners? How about the pea leaves and stalks?

Not sure about leaves and stalks as I don't have an allotment, sorry. Runner bean pods are OK as well if you don't feed too many.

I can understand that leaves and stalks may not be advised, but thought pea shoots were OK. They are listed on this thread.

would other forum members agree?
This says that peas in pods are ok and I thought onions albeit tops mentioned here were to be avoided. I think I'll just stick to the ones I'm really sure of as there's a lot of conflicting info. Thanks for all your help everyone

I know what you mean. I read somewhere that you can give guinea pigs the green part of leeks - but I too sure of one that at all !

And there is a big difference between what guinea pigs can eat and what they should eat (same goes for humans too).

I agree that there is a lot of conflicting advice out there. If in doubt, stay off. Pea shoots are probably OK. Just make it part of a mix and feed in moderation, then you can't go very wrong.

The greens of onion plant are not poisonous as such, but they should not be part of a regular diet.
