Hello
Its less than a month ago since my poor boy has recovered from his teeth issues that resulted in him not eating and now he's off his food again 8....
I am inbetween moving at the moment and my boys are at my mum's. When I left on Monday he was absolutly fine, squeeking for veggies and pocorning about. I phoned on tuesday evening and my mum said Alvin wasn't as keen on the cabbage as Theo, which rang alarm bells, he'll eat anything and in much larger quantities than Theo.
I came home wednesday evening and he seemed bright enough so I had been keeping an eye on him for 24hours and I cleaned out the cage last night so I could track the poo's he's doing. I gave fresh hay, pellets and veggies after and there was no sign of him, he was just hiding.
So this morning I had a good route about the cage and all I can see is diarrhea and a miserable looking wee soul 8....
His diarrhea is not black or dark its very greeny and smells absolutly foul and his wee tummy is gurgling and there is a lot of wind about.
He won't eat anything so I have started him on firbreplex and syringe fed him water and mushed up pellets with vitC added.
Any advice or similar experiences? How long should I wait before a trip to the vet, as it seemed to come on all of a sudden. Could the sore tummy be making him miserable and not wanting to eat? I'm really skint from the previous teeth treatment and my puppy's had a chest infection that cost about a £100 between treatment and follow up appointments, so I would like to see if he perks up before the vet.....is this ok?

Runny poo is a usually a bad sign, so i would suggest a vet visit asap, sorry i dont mean to scare you, it is just what i have learnt and read on here previously.

I hope he will be ok, keep us posted.

Thank you, me too.....I have no luck with animals, it seems so unfair when so many people keep piggies in tiny wee shop bought cages and don't give them any quality of life.
I am going to wait to midday, my vets are usually really good with appointments so if he's not any better whatsoever I'll take him up to Glen at Apex.
Aarghhh so worried.

If you havbe rehydration sachets such as dioralyte, syringe feed these to keep Alvin hydrated. Good luck.

Good luck with Alvin, diarrhoea need urgent vet attention, especially if he is not eating/drinking & is fluffed up. Hope he will be ok.

it does seem unfair doesnt it, but its just the way it is sometimes eh? Really hope Alvin is ok. Poor little lad x

Well, good news :). I spotted him about from hiding and have listened to him munching on hay for about an hour. The diarhea has stopped but no normal poo's as of yet, but no gurgling during the last feed. I hope he's on the mend. It just shows you how quickly they can come round if you spot it early.
Still not back to pellets and drinking so will continue the intensive nursing through the night and if he doesnt continue to improve I'll take him to the vet in the morning as mine are open from 9-12am.
I gave him some pet vit c which had electrolytes in it and fibreplex and as minging as it is a couple of poops from Theo. And of course water and syringe feeding.
Its so funny that once their guts go its a downwards spiral and so quickly. I cant bear the thought of when they are both older and naturally won't come around 8.... Cant believe Theo's 3 already.
Wish him luck that he continues to improve and it's just a little blip. He is a little bit of a wimp anything slightly wrong and he just gives in.
Thanks for all the support, I'll keep you all posted :) x

Well everyone...panic over, he is back to his usual little self and plodding about looking for trouble he he. I can't stress enough to any novice owners how important it is to really get to know your pig behaviours and poo watch all the time for early signs.
And thanks for all the support, this forum really is such a support as nobody gets my love for guinea pigs.......I don't understand why they dont he he. For something so small their communication skills and characters are unbelievable.
I'm a happy piggy mummy once again :) x
