My guinea pig is 3 months and I have him for 2 and a half weeks now. He was used to vegetables before I bought him. I fill up his food bowl in the morning with vegetables. Its equal to a cup of vegetables. So he gets that every morning. He usually eats it straight away. Then around 5/6ish in the evening I give him his pellets. They are the Burgess Excel guinea pig pellets (this bag http://www.farmway.co.uk/pet-1/smal...63/burgess-supa-guinea-pig-1307-2677_zoom.jpg) I dont givehim a whole lot of that, usually just so it fills the vey bottom of his food bowl, less than a handful. Then before I go to bed around around 11ish he would have about half of that eating, I would give him a little bit more. He also gets unlimited hay.

Do you think he is fed the right amount? I am kind of worried because he eats his vegetables straight away and then he has nothing till 6pm except for the hay. He also has never said no to food just a green bell pepper and even with that he eats it if its that last vegetable in the bowl.

Vegetables he has are carrot tops, carrot, parsely, green bell pepper, yellow bell pepper, red bell pepper, romaine lettuce, apple, cabbage, brocoli and a few other things i cant think of at the top of my head.

I am after reading online that young guinea pigs should have the dry food full time. Is that true.?

The manufacturers advice is 30-50g per day. As your piggy is 3 months old he is growing rapidly so will need a good amount of food. I would weigh out 30g of food and give it in the morning so that you can see how much he gets through - if it's all gone by bed time give a bit more, if there's some left after 24 hrs reduce it a little. I tend to give a day's dried food and veggies in the morning and hay available at all times - I give readigrass for a nightime treat.

Guinea pigs are kinda meant to be eating all day :) If he is eating his hay throughout the day then that is probably fine.

I leave my pigs pellets out all day. I know that too many pellets isn't great for them, but they have lots of veggies/hay/grass too during the day, so they don't overeat pellets, but they have them available if they want them and when they want them, instead of eating them all at once. They probably still only eat a small amount each day. I give them some veggies or grass in the morning and then again later on.

Sounds ok to me, as long as he has something to munch, its important he keeps eating. My girls have hay and excel pellets down all day unlimited. But then veg in the evening and occationally in the morning if they dont have any left. Sounds like ** doing fine, just maybe wiegh him and make sure hes putting on a resonable amount in a week and not loosing any wieght.
