Hi quite new to forum.
I have 2 boys aged 10 months. These are our first guinea pigs we have had.

I do wonder sometimes if i am giving too much or not enough and would appreciate advice from yourselves a lot of you seem to have years of experience with piggies.

My boys do seem to be very healthy / full of life with lovely coats on them but i don't know whether to give more food or less. So here as follows

Morning=
1 small/medium piece of broccoli each
1/2 baby sweet corn each
slice of cucumber each
slice of banana each
small piece of red pepper each
small piece carrot each
either small piece of apple /pear or melon each
Small piece of orange

Tea Time = The same as above

Night / before we go to bed = 1/2 baby sweetcorn each.

On a daily basis they also get 3 - 4 handfuls of Timothy Hay each / and there bowel is filled up with guinea pig nuggets

Also once a week i give them treats as follows
1 handful of dried dandelion feast each (pkt from pets at home)
1 handful of dried clover & plantation each (pkt from pets at home)
1 dandelion & grass stick each (pkt from pets at home)
3 treat um's each /( maintain healthy skin & coat / prevent hairballs / control cage odours) pkt from pets at home
1 muffin each (pkt from pets at home)
3 carrot drop buttons each (pkt from pets at home)
1 handful of dried apple in bowel with food once a week (pkt from pets at home)

Probiotic drinks in water and vitimin c (alternate when changing water)

So could anyone tell me is this enough and am i doing ok or should i be giving them something else

Thanks

OMG My guineas have just packed up and left home. They headed in your direction after mumbling something about better treatment. :))

Welcome to the forum.

An ideal diet is LOTS of hay - up to 80% of their daily food intake.

Keep their pellet bowls topped up until they have done most of their growing between 6-9 months old, then reduce slowly to 1/2 - 1 handful per piggy per day.

You should give about 50g/1 cupfull per piggy per day; ideally from a variety of mixed veg. Fresh grass counts as hay, but clover, dandelions etc. count as veg.
Sadly, the ratewatcher's guinea pig diet page seems to have been removed and Laura has taken her thread off to rewrite it.

Thanks for replying to my post.

They also can eat the bedding hay i put at the bottom of cage. I use hay as the sawdust gave one a nasty chest infection when i first got him.

I am glad i am doing everything right for my piggies. It is good to get advice from people who have experience with piggies. You can not keep on pestering the vet every time you have a question lol.

I know i am the type of person to kill a animal with kindness when it comes to the food and treats. I can not help myself . I done this when i had my dog for 17yrs lol. But as these are my first piggies you still like advice on things you don't know much about.

The vet did say that he would rather have a piggy with weight on him as when they get ill the weight can drop off quickly. So if they are a bit chunky it can be better when they take ill.

I still think my piggies are small for 10 months. I have seen loads of pics of other pigs and they all seem to be a lot bigger than mine.

Mine are a bit meaty but small in size.

But they were very tiny piggies when i bought them so it may be something to do with the breeding.

Hiya and welcome to the forum.

There is lots of lovely, sound advice on here, so you and your piggies will be alright. :)

I have 2 girls, with Dotty being just over 8 months. She seems a little porky for me too, but weighs about 1100g. Not sure if that is a good weight/per age for a pig.

Should I feed him more?

I have male a little over a year old. I give him about a handful of pellet food and a handful of hay in the morning in the afternoon 1/2 of a carrot. He acts like he is still hungry. Should I feed him more?

Your piggy shpuld hve accsess to unlimmited hay/grass and try some different veggies in his diet there should be a post where you will find all the information required

I have only had him for 3days now I am not sure if the past owner fed him alot. as soon as I give him his food its gone! I just wasn't sure if I kept the food in his care if he would just eat and eat and get sick from it. Thanks a bunch! I am about to put more food in his cage.

a piggies diet is around 80% hay or grass (experts correct me if I'm wrong) they should get a handful of pellets (over 1 year) and 50g/1cup full of fresh veg
