not sure if I am overreacting or not by being upset for this so I wanted everyone's opinion... today Wiley had a vet appointment for her eye which I booked last week. Couldn't get her in sooner as the vet was off which is fine, everyone needs some days off and I felt safe with her waiting a couple days. Well today I got stuck late at work with a customer. I called the vet a few minutes before my appointment letting them know I would be about ten min late and that I just had to run home to get my piggy and I'd be right there. They were at that point completely unwilling to see her and said I just needed to reschedule :( I was disappointed as I have been using them a couple years no problem. Sometimes they get behind on their end but they weren't willing to give me ten minutes? Also my appointment was near the end of the day so only one or two appointments after us. I ended up making an appointment for tomorrow at another office because they didn't have anything that worked for us this week.

I wish they were more willing to work with us as I had been willing to wait a few extra days for them :(

Thoughts?

What a shame! I don't feel my vet would do that they would just slot me in when it was my turn next. I'm sure I got stuck in traffic once on my 40 mile trip to the pig vet & called from the car & they weren't bothered - I just had to wait for a gap to be next. I think it's terrible... esp when you were only a few mins late not hours!

Oh that's very disappointing, I'd be upset too tbh. Luckily my vets are very accommodating and understanding, I think I would lose a bit of faith if that happened to me.

I know everyone wants to go home on time, but a few minutes isn't going to hurt when you could potentially lose a client!

Yeah I'd be quite annoyed at that, too. I understand they don't want to hold anyone else up but these things do happen from time to time.

I'm lucky my vets are great, there's been times where I've been kept waiting because of an emergency or they were just running behind (which is fine) then there's times where I've phoned with an urgent issue and they've squeezed me in right away or I've kept them later in an appointment and it's never been an issue.

You'd expect a bit of give and take, especially if you've used them for a few years.

absurd! (the vet's behaviour I mean!)
This vet knows very well that he maybe is the only exotic vet in the area... and that he will not lose the customer. I would drive far to another vet. And if you decide to remain his customer, have a clear talk with him next time using very clear words.
(Maybe the fault is only the secretary who has special directive to follow.. maybe the vet does not know anything of this story; have a talk with the doctor)

Thanks everyone! I think I will call and speak with him today. What if something had worsened in the meantime with my little pig and her well being had been compromised because of this? I can't even think of it!

I understand your pain, but the vet is able to refuse to see you. They work really hard, and should be able to go home at their normal time, they might have had plans or an emergency at home. I would imagine that they would accommodate you wherever they can, but sometimes it's just no possible.

Maybe as the appointment was made a week ago, they thought it was non-urgent or routine?. If it was an emergency then they would have suggested you go over to the emergency vets
