Yes, its' the usual. Pets at Home (mods, if you feel you can't stand any more on the subject please cancel this).

They had 2 tiny baby abbie boys. :smitten: :smitten: Struggling to reach the water, on back legs, swiping at it with their hands. I found a sales woman and asked her to move the water. She said "I'll get someone to do it". I waited by the guineas and at last a girl of about 16 came along, upended their pigloo, so they almost tumbled out and said "they can reach that." I said "they can't". She disappeared. I went to get mine a treat and went to pay. The girl was now on her mobile. I described what had happened to the guy on the till. He said he would deal with it. As i finished paying I said "I really would appreciate you moving that water now." He said "I can't I'm on the till." I said "OK, I'll go and look at it." When I got there someone had moved it and one of the little ones was drinking.

My mother says if it happens again (second time I've had to speak to them about water height) I should tell them if they don't fix it right now I will call the RSPCA
 
I go in there to check on the animals ;D I also have had to mention to them about the water being too high (assume you are talking about the same store as me). They have a large wooden 'boarder' around the pens which sort of dictates how low the water bottle can be. I've also witnessed guineas with no hay, which I said something about.
I might pop in there sometime this week and check up on them! They had a very ill looking bunny in there about a month ago now - huddled up, running eyes and nose. I was so upset I had to leave. :'(
 
Yes, I guess it's the same branch - on the industrial estate by the hospital?

I think those pens are wrong, because guineas' predators are from above. They used to have them where they now have degus/ chinchillas/ sometimes rabbits. I can't tell you how glad I am I saved Toony and Cozzie from that awful place. Cozzie had a huge abscess. Don't want to imagine what might have happened to him if he hadn't come to me.
 
Yep same place. They have a fast staff turnover it seems, and none of them seem capable of dealing with any of the animals.
I had 3 guinea pigs from them in 2004 (before I knew any better), one had mites!
 
I think the water bottles are too high in Pets at home. :-\ Glad they moved it, water is vital to pet shop pigs seeing as they don't get much veg.

Pudsey was in P@H for 6 wheeks so no wonder the poor little mite was coughing his guts up when I was giving him veg he just wasn't used to it.

I'd contact head office Lucinda, this should have been done straight away and not left until you kicked up a fuss. :)

Never noticed the water bottles really - My P@H are quite good - never have any adoption piggies in or many other animals really :P
 
if i'm in Norwich and have time i check on all three P@H and when i'm in Dereham i check the petshop thier too!
After last years hoiday and finding rabbits and guineas together if i'm not with the OH i complain! (he finds it too embaressing but agrees when i do it!)
 
i am in australia so know nothing about P&H but glynis hinted one was coming to victoria where she lives. but surely if these shops are as bad as you all say and i am NOT doubting you how the hell do they keep in business? :o :o :o who goes there to buy pets if they are in poor condition? perhaps get petitions, photographs, vet reports and see if you can get them to stop selling animals. but it amazes me how they stay open. good luck. hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: girls send :-* :-* :-*
 
They stay in business because people think that this is the norm for pet care, I was one of them before I came here. Education education education is the key!...no I'm not turning into Tony Blair! ;D
 
i know here in SA shops can't sell animals unless they have some form of certificate in animal care, and the council and rspca do surprise inspections. though how they get away with having bunnies and piggies together is beyond me. here they take animal care in petshops very seriously. one report from the public and they are there on the door step. so maybe the animal laws need to be changed in the UK, but even if the people in the shops know nothing about animals anyone knows they need water. i really hope things get sorted for the poor babies. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Because, compared to the majority of other pet selling shops in the UK, they are generally better :-\ which doesn't say much does it?
 
This is sad, if you contact head office they will get in touch with the manager. I contacted them with a copy of an e-mail I sent to the R.S.P.C.A about an issue about hay racks being out of reach and they got in touch the following day and moved the hay racks lower straightaway O0 I went in the other night and one of the piggies was layed in the hayrack munching the hay happily :smitten:
 
Good for you for speaking out and keeping at it! The P@H near me is quite good but i hope if i saw a problem i would speack out too.
