Well my boyfriend and I have been thinking of moving out together since he is going to college next year in Bristol or Exeter and I want to move out aswell because I feel like I just need my own space without my mums rules etc haha I'm at that age. Anyway I have to take my rabbit and piggy with me but when finding a landlord how hard is it to find one that doesn't mind them living indoors? Because Rosie will become a house bunny and I will be getting McMac a lovely C&C cage :3
Do any of you rent a house with pets? did you have to convince your landlord? I'm just worried that I might not be able to take them 8...

Don't assume when the listing say" no pets" that that's a definite. Some estate agents just put that on all listings and are quite often referring to larger pets anyway. It doesn't cost you anything to ask the landlord about it and explain how your pet lives ( basically put their mind at rest about possible damage to their property ) , you could also offer a pet deposit. Good luck. x

hi you

when i first moved into this flat with o/h the land lord said there was to be no pets at all so i had to leave my cat with my mum back up in scotland, but after about a year there were out for a visit and we asked if we could get a guinea pig and all the landlord asked if it would it be in a cage or roaming free then he said it would be ok to get a pig but as you know i now have 4 pigs and the landlord is fine with it so it never hurts to ask.
jo and the piggies x

All my tenancies since I moved out said no pets!

When I lived in halls at uni I had hamsters - they got smuggled!

The rest haven't really cared - "no pets" generally means no dogs. My previous land lord didnt care (we DID move in with a hamster and a tortoise, and ended up with over 40 pets by the time we moved out :))). My current property is managed by a brother-sister run letting agency. The bloke doesn't care, he likes animals, but he has warned me that his sister will hit the roof if she finds out about the animals, however he's been great - he's given me his sisters car registrations, said if they're ever on the drive (their office is downstairs from my flat mallethead) then don't take anything animal related past the house, and if anything needs doing where they need to come in the property, he'll make sure he deals with it!

It took us such a long time to find a flat we were happy with in our price range , that when we found it we were really worried about asking the landlord if we could have guinea pigs (we were just planning to get them when we moved in together). We were considering just trying to keep them secret (!), but realised we couldn't, so got the courage to ask him and he said yes, his family keep them, and make sure I get a pair!
I think landlords will generally be fine about guinea pigs and other caged animals, as they don't bring the the potential furniture damage, distruptive noise, poo and wee throughout the house that cats and dogs do (or at least that's what the landlord would think!)
I think it would have to be a pretty unreasonable landlord not to allow piggies. Good luck xx

I had no problem at all, most letting agents will use a standard assured shorthold tenancy agreement which says no pets. I asked them if I could have my guinea pigs and they crossed it out and wrote "guinea pigs allowed" lol :)) most landlords what to avoid troublesome pets which may prevent the house/flat being let in future either by damage to walls/carpets/furniture etc or by smell. Generally speaking small caged animals are fine but ultimately the decision is with the landlord

Just don't give up, my friend rented with 13 Chihuahuas, 2 lurchers, 3 piggies 2 budgies and 2 cockatiels LOL so there are animal friendly places out there x

ended up with over 40 pets by the time we moved out :)))

What? @) Thats quite a busy house lol

Thanks guys :) I did wonder if they just mean big hairy dribbly animals like dogs. It's horrible to see a nice house and be like "oo I could put the C&C cage there and Rosie's cage can go there" when all of a sudden I see 'No pets' :(
I guess ill just have to ask :) Luckily my boyfriend really likes Rosie and loves having her around (even though he doesn't feel the same about McMac haha) so he'll be pretty gutted if the landlord says we can't have them which means I'm not the one begging him to pick one house over another :L
