Couple left guinea pigs in hot glass pen beside rotting fruit and cats riddled with fleas

“In the living room, I saw a glass vivarium in the corner with the sliding door closed and no obvious ventilation. This housed two guinea pigs called Casper and Autumn. I could see rotting fruit inside on the floor and the water bottle had fallen over so they were unable to drink from it.

“I opened the door and stuck my head inside. The smell of the rotting fruit on the bottom was quite overpowering and the heat inside the vivarium was very noticeable.”

They also had starving cats, riddled with fleas and living in filthy conditions. And an 11yr old French Bull Dog who was deaf, missing one eye whilst also blind and suffering from 'cheery eye' in the other, thickening to the inside of her ears and red paws from all the chewing she'd done to them most likely due to allergies. Their symptoms had been ignored for years and none of the animals had ever seen a vet.

A 5 year ban on keeping animals. :cen:

It makes me so angry. If you take on any animals then you have a duty of care. They rely on us to stay alive, ensuring that that life is enjoyable shouldn't be optional!
I agree it should be a lifelong ban.
😤🤬😤🤬😤🤬😤🤬

The fact that they had a vivarium but no proper accommodation or food for the guinea-pigs and that the guinea pigs seemed relatively fine suggests to me they'd not had them very long, which makes me suspect they were meant to be food for the snake but it died just before/after they'd got them! >:c

The claims of "no vet appointments" is a pitiful excuse and I'd say obviously untrue even without the later confirmation the vet had no record of the attempts. That pup deserved better and it's apparently by sheer luck those guinea pigs and cats got their second chance.
