I'm looking for high calorie fattening foods or treats to buy or make myself for my little 3 month old sow. She has a problem with her mouth, possible abscess, malocclusion, deformity or abnormally growing tooth, the possibilities are endless and unclear at this point, she's at the vets tomorrow to find and treat the problem, but in the mean time I've already started trying to add weight onto her, she's around 100g underweight. She is not dangerously underweight but it's enough to make me want to take action before it's too late, she is a young growing piggy and it's vital that she gets the nutrients for growth, the older she gets the more underweight and skinny she looks/gets.

I am syringe feeding her mashed Burgess pellets twice per day (as much as she will take), there's also a bowl of porridge oats in the cage for her to eat when she wants, I've soaked her hay and also provided fresh grass from the garden, I'm also leaving softened pellets next to the usual ones so she can decide which she wants, and I've put muesli in there too, her veggies are chopped up to the smallest I can get them and I'm using more fruits and carrots to help with weight gain, I'm pretty much doing everything I can think of, I'm probably doing too much but since I've been doing this she has gained 11g in just one day, so it's working and I'm very happy and proud that she's eating and gaining weight again!

Obviously there will be no real improvement until she has seen a vet and the problem is treated, but she needs to gain weight now, and also after the treatment she will need to catch up and will need more calories than my other piggies, so I've come here to ask for suggestions to give her a variety of weight gaining foods so she doesn't get bored and keeps eating as much as possible. She can still eat by herself but it takes her a long time and she can only eat small amounts and it must be chopped up very small, so I don't need to completely take over and syringe feed her 24/7, I want to keep her appetite up and eating by herself as much as possible. I was originally feeding Alfalfa King Timothy Hay, which all of my piggies love, they won't entertain any other brand, but as the strands are very large and thick I've soaked it, which is much better for her, I've also bought some Woodlands Herby Harvest, Chamomile Harvest, Alfalfa Cubes, Readigrass, Hay Cookies and some other thin strand hay/treats just to stimulate her appetite and make eating easier for her.

I know that a bowl of rolled porridge oats and or oatmeal helps convalescing piggies gain weight.
Doh! sorry, missed the sentence about oats. Need my second coffee.

Readigrass is good at putting weight on but can be quite long and tough. I have found that Emerald Green Feeds do a grass chop which is a lot softer and shorter cut. They also do an alfalfa chop which is short and alfalfa pellets which, soaked, might be an option. Only problem is it all comes in large bags as it's for horses really. Some people recommend feeding a horse feed like build up conditioning mix which contains lots of things you wouldn't normally like to feed piggies with e.g. molasses, barley, peas etc and it's not formulated for piggies as a main diet but it is high calorie so may work in small amounts in the short term?
