Hello,

Just weighed my guinea's today - I'm not sure what they should roughly be weighing, so does anyone have a chart that I can use to help guide me?

Thanks
K xx

Roughly speaking, the weights suggested for adults are 900-1200g for males and 700-900g for females but it's not really representative and weights fluctuate greatly amongst pigs of similar ages. It's better to use your own judgement and common sense to ascertain if your pig is of the correct bodyweight. They should have a nice covering of flesh without being flabby, and feel firm and toned to the touch.

Piggies dont have a set weight, especially as they are still growing. The best thing to do is weigh them weekly, this will show you any fluctuations in weight which is the main thing to watch out for, as this can indicate ill health (if there is weight loss)

Thanks for your responses.

One of my little ones does seem very thin, which is why I was trying to find a guide to see what a two-three month guinea should approximately weigh.

He eats well but is quite boney, unlike my other little one who's just a couple of weeks older but is much bigger and firmer.

My little one, tri-colour satin is 380g - 9 weeks
the other a teddy, is almost 600g - 11 weeks old.

The little one does seem to sneeze alot, but I've been checking his eyes and nose and there doesn't appear to be any sign of a cold. I am keeping a close eye on this though.

I just hope to get a little meat on those skinny bones of his.

I wouldn't agree with the 700-900g for females, that does sound a bit low. My 2 girls are both above 1kg and are not fat at all.

Very true - my 18month old girl is nearly 1300g while one of my other girls who is around 7momnths old is over 1000g rolleyes - even my smallest sow (who is coming up to 2yrs old) is over 1000g - and she feels very dainty and petit when you pick her up (i.e no body fat whatsoever)

Best thing you can do is weigh both pigs weekly - weight gain the their age is perfectly normal :) Any continuous weight loss and you should seek veterinary advice as it's often the first sign of illness...

Yes, my 2 girls vary(mostly because of the rubbish scales!) between about 1.1kg-1.5kg and they are not at all fat.

Healthy weights for healthy girls ;)

I'm sure i read somewhere that a healthy weight range for an adult guinea pig is anywhere from 900g to 1800g - some guinea pigs carry weight better than others my 7month old texel girl looks and feels way chunkier/bigger than my 2yr old aby sow and both weigh more or less the same :):)

All piggies are different I guess :) my 2 girls are not at all chunky, I used to wish they were as I didn't think they were 'pig like' enough! :))
