Anything Interesting? Food Wise, For Pigs?

Thanks, I know about the hay! whenever I put it in for bedding, they eat it all! I feed lots of veg, mainly carrots and normal guinea pig food!

Please don't overdo the carrots. They contain vitamin A, which can build up in the liver if overfed. Our food thread should give you hopefully lots of ideas on how to enrich their diet.

If you go to a local pets at home there are a wide range of guinea pig pellets, I reccomend burgess excell nuggets or pets at home own nuggets (for guinea pigs of course) however you should just give them in small amounts and introduce them slowly as they will not be used to the pellets

Pellets aren't needed really as as long as they get a proper veg and hay diet its more just an extra. I don't give mine them at all.

As for veg, a good list that should help would be celery, green beans, cucumber, carrot (one a week a treat), coriander, pepper (green, red, yellow) my piggies go crazy for pepper and green leaf. They need vegetables daily. =)

I use shredded paper as I've gone through many different types and found this best for my lot.

The most popular bedding seems to be fleece though.

I use puppy pads sometimes when the mat we use it being washed, sawdust is way too messy, and a carpet fitting the floor of the hutch is perfect, less messy and does the job, what they sleep in is hay. ;)

Yah, we don't put fleece in, they don't sleep in it, they don't like to sleep on anything really, but to sit in hay, the cosy things we put in ends up getting dragged around and chewed so we don't use it. ;)

No, we can't really afford it, and don't know what to give, that we don't have to buy, we have boxes, but they don't really chew them much just sleep and sit in them and hide. :tu:

Oh I recommend giving them toilet roll tubes stuffed with hay! My pigs love these! There are also some cheap chews that you can get at local pet shops and online! Maybe you should have a look on vetuk.co.uk for treats and chews (:

A typical veggie meal for mine consists of small amounts of carrots, melon (inc. skin), cucumber, kale or brocolli, celery, apple (only very small portion), pepper (green, red, yellow or orange), spinach, parsley, coriander & garden mint. Other things such as small amount of cauli or cabbage leaves (what we have left from Sunday lunch). In the summer they love sweet corn complete with the outer husk. They spend about 5 minutes as a team eating the outer leaves to get to the corn.

Regarding toys, mine prefer anything cardboard. A box with holes cut in for doors or one of those boxes you get 12 cartons of milk in (it's great as a sort of tunnel or the tube off the kitchen roll we always have handy next to their run.

mine love celery as well as other stuff mentioned and baby corn. Gave them a full corn on the cob one day and they loved it. Would lino not be better than carpet then it will wipe clean. Do they have a fiddlesticks bridge as they can chew on it as well to keep their teeth down. Mine love the fiddlesticks tunnels to climb on and go through. Can get cheap ones in some pet shops or possibly online
