Hi, I just wanted to check that crab apples/twigs /leaves are safe to give to guinea pigs fresh from the tree. If they are how popular are they with your pigs?

Yes they’re fine for piggies :)I’ve got a couple of crab apple trees in my garden so had tried my piggles with branches and leaves for almost a decade with no interest! (My chinchillas loved them!) All liked a little slice of the apples every now and again though.
Then my naughty Luigi arrived in July of last year and loves them! Leaves and branches!

I limit the amount of leaves he has but the branches are always around at playtime as he’s got the nickname of ‘The Chewmonster’! Loves my furniture/carpets/skirting boards to chew on so distracts him!
I don’t put them in the cage because of splinters etc but he loves a good nibble when he’s out! I give them a good clean first and I used to dry them out in the oven for my chins but think he prefers them fresh!
Hope your piggies enjoy! :)

Thanks thats great! I have two trees in my garden so I'm sure they'll love a branch in the summer.

I find that when one pig likes a food, it's suddenly the most popular thing in the shed!
Truffle says hello fellow agouti pig and would like to complement Luigi on his beautiful colouring.

Sure they’ll love them :)
I was hoping his cagemate Jess might join in with the branch munching but she knows what she likes at nearly 7 and sticks to it, so no! Haven’t seen my newest girly Aliona nibbling yet but she’s not been here long so maybe when there are some leaves involved she might give it a go! :hmm:

Cauliflower is still more popular, but it's a great chew toy for rainy days when they can't graze.
