to do a homecheck to see if I am a good enough mom to adopt Colby. I'm having a panic now. Girls have just been to the vets for checkup and nail cut so they are all sulking, have just had Melody's hair cut so she looks like a mad child has hacked at her hair so thats a great start!

I cleaned the whole C&C last night but the three of them produce poop so quick it looks like they haven't been cleaned for a week. I will clean them out again tonight and do a full change but they will have covered the place again by tomorrow evening. I will have to follow them round with the dustbuster. Has anyone got three little corks?

I feel the need to scrub the whole house down. Wish me luck.

Beki
Lara, Mo and mad hair Melody (all sulking cause bad mommy took them to the vets)

Lots of love and luck for tomorrow! Sure you'll pass with flying colours! x

Best of luck!

What my local inspector was mostly interested in was the measurements of the accommodation and that I was obviously caring about my piggies.

You'll be fine Beki, I'll wish you good luck but you won't need luck!

And regarding Melody's hair, I should say the RSPCA homechecker will just be glad to see a long haired piggie that is not matted and knotted up. :)

When we had our home checked to adopt cats ages ago they arrived while we were cleaning out the rats and we had shavings everywhere. I was mortified but the homechecker said that they just wanted to know that we were human and capable of looking after animals. She even said that if our house had been too tidy then she would have thought that we were just putting on a show.

Try and relax she will be happy to see a reasonably clean environment with plump happy pigs!

The first time I had a homecheck I cleaned my grill!

However, as Wiebke says, they are mostly interested in the accommodation for the piggies and also the condition of your existing animals.

"Has anyone got three little corks?"

Haha, I know exactly how you feel...good luck, I'm sure the RSPCA will see they're happy animals...sulking and crazy-hair cuts or not :))

I was the same when the ISPCA inspector came over a few weeks ago, when I was getting Meeko. She was really nice though, and not as strict as I thought she'd be. She just played with my dogs and kitten and said "well you probably know more about guinea pigs than me anyway" :)

I just had the hutches clean, the boys out on the grass, their food bowls full of food and veggies, and I made sure the dogs were looking good and brushed and there was no poop around!

I was really worried though, I was telling her about getting my girls and how one was pregnant and that's why I have baby boys too, but then I was worried she'd give out to be for buying pet shop pigs, or she'd think I was a breeder!

But she just wanted to see that he'd have company and the hutches and runs he'd be in. :) She thought everything was fine, and she even said she'd be getting rabbits in soon if I wanted any! so she must have thought it was ok.

My dad was saying the neighbours must have been excited when they saw the ISPCA van and thought they were taking away some of my animals!

Good luck with the homecheck, I bet it'll be fine :)

thanks everyone for the words of support.

Hadn't thought of cleaning the oven, mmm... might just go and have a look at it see if it needs cleaning..:-)

I have calmed down a bit this evening, frankly its too warm to run around like a cleaning maniac.

The girls are not co-operating with the cleaning efforts, as soon as I clean their poop up they run around popcorning and pooping more like its a game. Now they have all flaked out, probably the stress of the vet trip. Melody is curled up in her bed giving herself a clean so I think she is appreciating the haircut now.

Will come home early from work tomorrow and do a thorough poop control.

I wouldn't go overboard on the poop control or they might think you have constipated pigs! :))

Hope it all goes well. x

Update

I've been approved!

She had a look at my run, had a look at the C&C which she hadn't seen before so was interested in. Had a look at the girls and a cuddle with Melody and said she was happy with my set up and would call and let them know I was OK to adopt.

It only took 10 minutes. Makes you wonder why I stressed so much.

Congratulations!

Can't wait to see pics of Colby in his new home!

Congratulations, I knew you'd pass.

Now you've just got to wait your new little man. These next couple of weeks are going to seem like forever.

Damn! I was hoping Vicki was going to say that they made an error and that Colby was going to come and live with me instead!

Thanks Vic

I was so nervous just before 6, it was like waiting for your inlaws to visit for the first time:-)

What happens now? How do I go from 'whoopee I'm approved' to 'hello girls look at the present I have brought you'?

Congratulations, I knew you'd pass.

Now you've just got to wait your new little man. These next couple of weeks are going to seem like forever.

We need to wait for the home visitor to tell us you have passed and then we will give you the phone number of his fosterer and you can arrange collecting him. You can collect him after the 4th June.

Congrats! Excellent news! I'm sure you'll be counting down the next 2 weeks! xx
