Yes they are very similar in ingredients to the other mainstream brands like Burgess, Science Selective and Harringtons and the calcium and protein levels are also similar. I am compiling a comparisson on pellets at the moment. I personally feed a grainless pellet from Zooplus which was recommended to me as it has more natural ingredients which suits my pigs and their various health issues.
@helen105281 I understand the problems associated with feeding things that are high in calcium to piggies but what percentage of calcium in something being fed to a guinea pig makes that food "high" in calcium such that it shouldn't be fed to guinea pigs regularly/every day?
I am not sure on the exact amounts but to me anything over 0.6 is a bit too high so I don't feed it. I follow a plan that is balanced though with all of the right ratios and was created by my friend who has worked with many different bladder pigs.
I saw you asking about readigrass and I don't feed that either as it flares my pigs' interstitial cystitis but I know many people who do feed it. I think the issue is not just the relatively high calcium content but that it is highly concentrated. The same applies to pellets which have a slightly higher calcium percentage. I am not too good with ratios etc though.
A couple of months a go we switched from Pets at Home Guinea Nuggets at £2.38 per kg to these at just £1 per kg. Our 18 Guineas happily eat them and seem as healthy as ever. They look very similar to the Pets at Home and other brands of pelleted food but have less 'dust' when you get the bottom of the bag. Recommended !
Problem with the Asda Guinea Pig Nuggets is that when you spill the bag about a million more nuggets fall out...
I dont give Flipflop a great deal of dry food, its there if she wants it but she is mainly eating the hay I give her and the veggies that she grazes over night
