Hi all,

Just to let you know that we got Aspen home last night after her cyst operation.

Here's her big wound :(

Apen Op.webp

The vet confirmed it was a sebaceous cyst so no need to worry.

She was quite dazed last night but as soon as we got her settled in her Hospital cage she started eating LOTS but weirdly no poops!

I was getting worried - thinking something was wrong. I usually moan about how much they poop but I was wishing for her to poop as much as she wanted!

Finally, at about 11pm she made up for about a days worth of poop in about 10mins!

She seems back to her normal self this morning :)

Any ideas how to keep this wound clean or do I just leave it alone?

I'm also concerned that when she goes back in with Mali properly he will give it a lots of sniffs and that might annoy her.

Thanks Chums!

I'm glad to see that the op seems to be successful. These are one of the most successful ops for piggies. 2 of mine have had sebaceous cysts removed & both recovered well. Only thing you have to watch out for is the companions thinking they're helping by biting the stitches. This happened with Mousey 18 months ago & the operation wound took about 2 months to heal as a result of this. Rex who I was fostering at the time was by himself as he'd also been neutered at the same time. His wound healed up very quickly. Generally you should leave the wound alone unless there is any blood which you can clean with a saline solution. Only other thing to watch out for is any redness or swelling, but this is rare. If you have any doubts about anything during the healing process please phone your vet. You'll probably be going back in a week or so to have it checked & stitch removal.

Aww thanks.

There are in the same cage but separated at the moment - I might keep them like this until her wound has healed a bit more. We are back in 10 days to get her stitches removed so hopefully all will be well. It just looks lie a big wound for a wee Guinea Pig but the vet and vet nurses have been fantastic with her.
