As some of you probably know Athena has had problems for some time now. Over the past few months she seemed to be doing really well. The bleeding had actually completely stopped. But when we've come in tonight she doesn't seem to be using her back legs. She was ok this morning, but now she's just kind of dragging herself round using her front legs. I've got her out and moved her legs etc and she didn't react so I don't think she's in any pain and there's no cuts or marks to indicate shes hurt herself somehow. She's on metacam daily in any case due to her condition so she's not long had her dose of that but I don't know what else I can do to help her. It's quite distressing to see her like this and I'm racking my brains to see what could have caused it. Could it be a stroke? scurvy? her bladder may be more inflammed then it normally is? arthritis?

Is there anything I can do? I'm going to ring the vets tomorrow if there's no improvement

Maybe she has a vitamin c deficiency. My Bob had this, and I gave him a vitamin C tablet, and he perked up really fast. His back legs were never the same though, after that :( He can walk alright though.

Vitamin C deficiency or problems to absorb it? http://www.guinealynx.info/scurvy.html

There may be other reasons as well, so it would be good to have her checked by a vet. You are doing so much for Athena; she must surely feel all your love and is doing her best to hang on in there!

Just a little update. We took Athena to the vets on Saturday morning who couldn't find anything physically wrong with her so said it must be neurological. He told me to do some physio on her ( cycling her legs basically ) prescribed antibiotics incase there was an infection or abscess which was putting pressure on her spine which would stop the signals getting to her legs, she's still on the metacam which would help with any swelling and I got her some osteocare from holland and barrett which was recommended on peter gurneys website. So we have a little regime going now, 2 lots of medicine in the morning with physio and 2 lots in the evening with physio.

Last night as I was doing her physio I noticed her toes started to flex a little ( she had no movement in them really before this ) and when I put her back she started to hop along a little bit. This morning when we've got up she's actually using her legs, though she does topple over now and again but there's been a massive improvement. I'm trying not to get too excited about it all but she's definitely alot better than she has been. She's managing to sit properly with her legs underneath her again rather than splayed out behind her so fingers crossed she's going to be ok
