Aubiose - have I bought the right product?

I'm still not sure I have the right stuff here. We bought some of this on Saturday and it's like the pigs are sitting on splinters! This IS the same stuff, right?

I admit it's clean, looks and smells nice and fresh, and is reasonably cheap but all my boys have got it sticking into their willy bits, it looks incredibly painful and they hated me trying to extract the splinters, which were well and truly jammed up there :-\. It caused Dylan to cry out in discomfort and I'm worried that I have got the wrong stuff?I just wanted to check, if anyone can help?

Thats the stuff - looks the same as mine anyway!

I put hay on the floor too - just in one corner and I can't say I have had any problems with my boys getting stuff stuck any more than I have with other beddings. Megazorb was worst for 'debris' I think - turned them grey up there!!

yep looks the same as what i have, it is sharp and yet quite soft to touch. i have been usung it for some time now and have had no problems. when i put it in the cage i pat it down.

Hi both, thanks for the replies. I know that a piggie on it is lighter than me pressing my hand hard down so i'm not too worried about that, it was mainly the painful looking splinters up their man bits I was really worried about - apart from that it seems to be great stuff! So do none of your boys get bits in their bits then?
Any suggestions how I can stop my boars from having this problem? The two bonded boys seem to drag their bottoms around the cage a fair bit, not sure if they are scent marking or something, but not sure why Dylan being a single lad would need to do this. Perhaps I should put some hay on the floor of their cage?

Well, we tried them with a fresh cageful last night and today when I checked them after work, they had sharp bits up their bits again :-\ I think we're going to stop using it. I hate the idea of Megazorb turning them grey up there, but if it's a choice between sharp splinters or grey softer bits, we may have to go with the Megazorb.

Is there an easy way of getting stuff out of their willy area? I vaguely remember someone saying about pushing somewhere to sex them, but not sure if that applies with cleaning that area?

don't know what to say... mine have had no problems and i have a mixture of 30 piggies.

are you putting a decent thickness in and pressing it down to make it solid?

i think you press their belly near their willy and out it pops ;D

mine don't drag their bottoms in the cage but out on the carpet

did u try it with a bit of hay in?

don't know what else to suggest

Yes you press right above the willy and it should start to come out, and then you can get the whole thing out and give it a good wipe. It's about 3/4 of an inch when fully out.

We've put in quite a thick layer the last two times we've used it, about 2" in places, but unfortunately they still get it up there! I think I have very territorial piggies!

I have discovered a whole new world to cleaning out boars...ahem...bits ;D I never realised in a hundred years what problems they can have up there and how to clean them properly! Pigggie ownership is just one big learning curve...

I bet if someone told you, prior to boar ownership, that you would have to extrude boys "bits" to clean them etc you wouldn't have believed them! Oh the joys ;D ;D

Wilson was supposedly a girl when I got him and I was never warned... I never realise about te problems they can get down there... luckily wilson has never had any problems ;D
