I have 2 adult sows and 3 baby girls who will be staying together. Ideally i would like to put our male baby with 2 adult boars. I know threesomes dont always work but i would like to try. I was wondering if i should start introducing him for short periods to the males so that they can get used to him before three week separation date. the boars are very laid back so hopefully it will ok, if they dont get on i will get another young boar as friend for the baby boy

The only thing that would worry me is the fact that the baby boar will carry the scent of his mum and sisters, which might upset the already bonded pair.

I have asked sophiew to check in on this post, she's done a lot of boar pairings so should have a better idea of how it might work.

if it was 2 baby boars with one older one i would think it would be worth a shot but 2 older ones may not like a younger one joining there group if they are currently happy as a pair,
Its worth a try but you would have to be prepared for a possible 3 lone boars as they may all fall out,
if given more than the minimum requirement of space, washed before hand and introduced slowly on neutral ground you may suceed, goodluck xx

Sorry, was away! :)

If your existing 2 boars are happy together I wouldn't rock the boat by introducing a new baby boar who as Laura rightly says will smell of his mothers and sisters - not unless you have the room to keep 3 single boars if it all goes wrong. It CAN work but it's tricky to get right and unless there is a good reason for it I wouldn't risk it. Your best bet is to either wait and get your baby boar neutered when he's old enough so he can live with his mum and sisters (but neutering, as with any op, carries risks) or to find another boar for him to live with, either a baby boar of a similar age while they are still both very young or as a friend for an adult boar.

Good luck!

I have a spare hutch ready for Cookie (my baby boy) if need be. But i dont really like the idea of him of him being on his even if its only for a little while. I brought him inside this afternoon with george and fudge (adult boars) and put them in a large pet carrier together. All that happened was that cookie kept nuzzling the others tummies. The older 2 ignored him just gave him a little nudge now and again. They were only together for 10 minutes but I hope
that this is a sign that they might be ok together. If i was to get another adult boar to bond with cookie what age should the newcomer be?
