The Mill Hotel, Gretna, in the peaceful Scottish
One of the RSPCA sows gave birth today whilst I was out. I arrived back to find the little one lying on its side and obviously taking its final breaths. The baby was full term and looked perfect - as Graham said to me - "its just one of those things" - so very sad.

Mum (pictured below) is sharing a cage with another sow who gave birth this morning and is helping to rear those three newborns so hopefully she will not be too depressed.

Mum - who is doing absolutely fine and embracing the role of Auntie.

Oh thats sad Helen, and even more so that mum doesn't have any babes of her own to mother. Hopefully she will be ok being auntie. What a sweet girl. Hope she will be ok. x
 
Poor girl - I am so sorry for her!
I am glad for her that she has her companion's babies to look after and nurse.

RIP little baby - perhaps another time?
 
Two of my sows gave birth within an hour of each other and I left them all together mums and babies didnt seem to mind whose was whose and they were all one big family.and were very happy. I am jealous that there will be no more babies for us since the boy who we thought was a girl has had his "pockets emptied"as they say.
I am sure the mum whose baby died will take up with the other babies and not be too sad.
 
Oh, very sad news. It is always so upsetting when the baby looks perfect but just couldn't make it.

Glad that mum is ok - that is good news and that she has company. She might even feed the other babies.

Oh poor little thing, she must be sad :( glad she has babysitting duties to keep her busy. Sleep tight little one x
 
How sad that this little piggy didnt make it. All the mummy piggies in Rainbow Bridge will take care of the little pup. Run free at the bridge little one and know that you were very much loved in your little short life on earth,

Oh - what a shame - poor little baby :(

Thank heavens mummy can be auntie pig - sure this will make her feel just like a 'proper' mummy pig :)
