Hello, question.
I have just added an approx 6 week baby guinea pig to my bunch. I have a 10 month old and 2-3 year olds. I have always bought babies in pairs when I did. I’m wondering how much and what should I be feeding only the baby to make sure it gets enough calcium for growth and would it be worth it to get a bag of oxbow young pellets and just giving her some by herself and letting her have access to the adult pellets I give the others. They get about 1/8-1/4 cup of pellets per pig per day that I put in a bowl and they can munch on it whenever. I have been giving special time for the baby pig with alafa hay that the others can’t. In addition they get red and green leaf lettuce, bell peppers, carrots, cucumber as a treat, tomatoes as a treat, radicchio, and Clinatro. Occasionally they will get a piece of orange or apple.

Young piggies do not need young piggy pellets. Youngsters can be fed a normal adult diet (from birth) including normal adult pellets. That is - unlimited grass hay, one cup of a variety of veg and one tablespoon of normal adult pellets.

The young piggy pellets already contain alfalfa so please do not give additional alfalfa if you choose to continue with the young piggy pellets. Alfalfa is not needed for youngsters over 3 weeks of age. i would personally stop giving the supplementary alfalfa and I would also switch the youngster to the normal adult pellets - that way you also do not need to interrupt their relationship by separating the youngster for feeding

Please do also reduce the pellets for all your piggies down to just the recommended one tablespoon per pig per day and don’t let them have access to them all the time. They are the least healthy and least important part of the diet and the only food they should have constant access is hay.

Also do be aware that cucumber does not need to be given as a treat - It is a safe every day food. However, carrot and all fruit is a treat and they should be given no more than once per week

Okay I will bring the pellet amount down. And I haven’t gotten the young pellets yet. What veggies can I give to make sure the baby piggy gets enough calicum. And I mean just a small amount of something only she can have and will use it as bonding time and let her have access have to whatever other veggies I give the adults. And I will cut out the alfafa.

They get all the nutrition they need from a normal diet - encouraging lots of hay consumption is the best thing for a healthy life!
You can use any veg for bonding time - coriander/cilantro is often a favourite.
She doesn’t need to be fed any differently to the older piggies, just as long as you introduce new veg carefully so as to not cause a tummy upset.

Did you double check the sex of the new baby yourself before adding her in?
Has she been bonded in with the others for long?

Yes I did verify the gender. And no not bonded for very long but def doing very well with the others-they all are eating, and grooming themselves. The existing ones are like hi and welcome.

And okay thank you for response there is a lot of miscommunication online and I’ve always gotten older ones than this one.
