learning how to eat with Dad

Hi, Welcome to the forum.

Sorry if i have missed any previous threads on your babies.

Am i right in thinking they are 3/4 days old? Is mum still with them? Is dad neutered?

x

Mum is still with them yes and Dad is neutered. Dad is so sweet with them..we kept him out for the first few days, not sure how he would react but he is a pushover and lets them rule the roost. The babies have taken his favorite spot a few times and he just moves on. Last night the babies were cuddled up right next to him in the loft while mom was downstairs snuzzin alone peacefully.

They were born Sunday and weighed 121g and 136g .. everyone is eating and drinking fine :)

Aw, well they are very cute! Its lovely to see a little family together. x

Hiya and welcome!

Your babies are very sweet and great that all has gone well!

How long has dad been neutered for? Please be aware that he will need a full 6 weeks post op wait until he is 100% safe to go with mummy and any baby girls. I have a surprise baby from a supposedly safe over 5 weeks post op boar (not one of mine), just to prove the point that it really CAN happen. Many vets unfortunately still think that a boar is safe at two weeks post op, but that is only true in about 50% of the cases. Good that you have had him separated during birth.

If you wish help or confirmation with sexing the pups, you are welcome to pictures of the relevant bits in our pregnancy section; the clearer the better! Here is a link for sexing babies with lots of pics: http://www.cavyspirit.com/sexing.htm
You will have to remove any boar babies at 3 weeks old/250g or 8 1/2 oz of weight, as they can start making their own babies from then on in. Baby sows can get pregnant from 4 weeks onwards. The earliest documented sibling pregnancy is at 24 days old.
