Last week one of my foster sows delivered three pups. Sadly one little sow was stillborn and one little boar was an obvious runt who we nicknamed Scraggy. He was a real little character, the first to work out how to climb out of the cage, the first to take a nosedive into the mashed pellets and an all round cutie. Sadly despite every effort he failed to thrive and today he passed away at home with us. This is the hard face of fostering.
Popcorn free little Scraggy. Be reunited with your sleeping sister.

I feel so sad for you. i would have been in bits. Scraggy looked beautiful, such a character! Run free over the rainbow bridge little baby

Ahhh... Popcorn free over rainbow bridge lovely little Scraggy. Sounds like you had lots of fun in this world that you can transfer into rainbow world, be free, be naughty & you’ll be sadly missed :luv: xx
RIP Scraggy xx

Huge hugs Vicki, you gave this little one the best possible chance and he knew love in the short time he was here with you. Massive hugs I am really so sorry, to lose little ones is devastating. x

So sorry to hear this news. He was such a sweet little thing.
At least you know that in his short life he was loved and cared for.

Thank you all. I’m very down about losing Scraggy. It’s very hard when you’ve invested so much time energy and love into a little soul. He was the most kissed of all the baby piggies and such a sweetie. I guess he just wasn’t ever going to make old bones. I’ve just weighed and kissed all the others. I still half expected to find him climbing up the bars.

It’s so sad when they suddenly pass without warning. He couldn’t have been more loved & cherished in your care & was taken from you far too early. Big hugs .
( this might make you smile... Heidi’s busy re-arranging all furniture as I type this, to the displeasure of the others) xx
I hope the rest of your piggies are ok after their loss, give them extra cuddles from me x

Hello. I can't fully understand how you feeling as I've not lost a baby piggie. But if it's how I was after me Pedro died then I can offer you my heart felt sympathy.
I should imagine the little guy had the best care and chance any piggie any size any age from you. Dig Deep Lass. x

Oh Vicki :( I’m so sorry:soz: RIP little babies xx

Such sad news yet people keep on trying to breed their pets. I hope this is an experience you don't have to have too often with fostering. Rip little Scraggy

I do take comfort from the fact that the pregnant sows who come into our care will never have to go through this again. And even though their babies don’t all make it, they get a better chance with us than if left alone. We know the stats around maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality mean that sooner or later despite our best efforts some mums and babies aren’t going to make it. It’s just so sad to see it in your home.
