currently looking after Wayne, a friend's bunny. I read somewhere guinea pigs can die fromma dormant disease in bunnie's noses? This is my setup, Wayne stay in the left cage and pen, and Cocoa (my pig) stays in the right cage and roams the room. Only for a week. Is this okay? Wayne has not touched Cocoa at all. They have not had any interest in each other.

Hi! Rabbits can carry a proto-bacterium called bordetella without showing any symptoms themselves, which is lethal to guinea pigs. Some forms of dog kennel cough are also caused by bordetella; this form of kennel cough is called bordetellosis (which is a chest infection caused by bordetella). It is infectious to guinea pigs, too.

As long as they are not mixing and living together, they should be OK. If you have plenty of brown cardboard hanging round, you can cover the grids with it whenever your piggy is roaming if you want to be on the safe side.

Alright, cool. I've got no cardboard, so I guess I'll just make sure to keep them separate. Thanks!

Alternatively, you can peg some towels to the grids; it is just for a short time.
