Bald on belly after being pregnant?

Hi, as I posted in another thread, my guinea pig Lola was pregnant and had the babies a bit early and they died. I've just noticed now that around her nipples, one her belly and the inside of her thighs is bald. The skin doesn't look irritated or anything.

Is this likely to be hormonal or could it be mites or something? Is that an area they would chew if they had mites? My old pig had sarcoptes mites once and chewed her back, not her belly.

Thanks, and hopefully someone knows and hopefully it's just hormonal.

I know Sukie lost a little fur from her sides when she had a baby, but I don't think she did around her nipples, but can't remember too much.

Maybe they lose hair there for the babies to be able to get to the nipples, I don't know?

Oh and she is an abyruvian if that helps. I hope she's ok . . .

Hairloss is not uncommon in pregnant/nursing sows. Like you think, it's probably hormonal and should grow back.

I was a bit worried, then I was thinking that it surely couldn't be mites or anything since I haven't gotten any new pigs lately. Unless they can catch them some other way . . .

Anyway, I'll keep and eye on it, but I guess it probably is hormonal.

I have heard of post-partum hair loss, if the skin doesn't look irritated at all I would feel that it's related to her recent pregnancy. Sorry to hear the little ones didn't make it. xx

It was very sad that the babies didn't make it, but at least Lola was ok. I was worried about her. Hopefully her skin will be fine anyway
