We have only had our pigs about a month or so...
We tried giving them a wash today and noticed one of them has a bald patch on its side, photo showing below..

is this anything to be concerned about?

Oh yes.

Although I'm not up enough on skin problems to suggest what the most likely cause is, but I would certainly advise you to get him to a vet. It could be a parasite problem, fungal, or possibly infection, though the skin doesn't look quite as I would expect if it were an infection going by the photo.

Just checked her again and the patch of skin still looks the same.
Its totally smooth with no bumps, spots, scars, scabs, etc, and no sign of anything living directly under the skin in that area....

Treatment for parasitic and fungal infection would be worthwile. It does mean a couple more baths for both your piggies though! It is a good idea to see a guinea pig experienced vet, especially since this piggie does look quite young, in order to get the right treatment.

Ivermectin (injections or oral) will deal with any mites, three doses given 7-10 days apart. Antifungal shampooing - with Nizoral (from chemist) or products from Gorgeous Guineas (www.gorgeousguineas.com) - can be done in between Ivermectin doses. Treating for both skin problems at the 'same' time should clear the problem up fully, and hopefully more quickly.

Yes they young, we had them about a month and girl who served us at P@H said they were about 9weeks old..

The bald patch seems to be growing back over and by today I can hardly find it, but we booked them into a vets last week for today, so decided to still take them both anyway for a general health check..

He said both are perfectly healthy and a good weight! :))
He says the area of skin around where the bald patch was is normal looking and no skin problem there!
