Just got the boys out to be weighed and i’ve noticed two bald patches on Carlos back legs in the same place either side. He just had dental surgery a couple weeks ago but has since recovered and doesn’t seem to be having any issues and is back to being himself. What could be the cause of these? Don’t want to be putting the little man through any more stress 😩 0F8A4766-24B2-47DD-BDA7-8C16C1B5E33E.webpA6350036-6F76-472F-8B2A-CEDB27042FE8.webp

Hello. Poor Carlos. I’m glad he’s recovering well after his dental surgery. I’d definitely get him seen by a vet. It could be lots of things. Fungal or mites (which can sometimes flare up after a piggy has been ill) or maybe he’s biting himself because of pain somewhere. They are very good at hiding pain and illness. It’s odd that it’s on both sides. So I’d get a vet appointment. Keep us posted. 😃

Thank you for your reply. I just feel so bad for him, he was only discharged on monday following his op after a lot of back and forth from the vets which stresses him out (as i’m sure it would with most piggies). He is a teddy and i’ve read before that they can be prone to skin issues so maybe that could be something to do with it?

I’ve never had a teddy so I don’t know about their skin issues. Sorry. I’d still ask the vet their opinion.

Hi!

It looks to me rather like potential self-barbering for discomfort in the legs - either because of pain in the legs (arthritis?) or mange mites. My personal guess would be more on the first but I can only guess on esperiences with piggies of mine.

Please contact your vet for a hands-on examination. I am very sorry that it comes right on the heels of another costly problem. :(

Did you notice any other symptoms with the piggies with arthritis? He doesn’t seem any less active and isn’t appearing to be in any pain with his legs

Not necessarily; that is why a vet's hands-on examination is best.

He’s been the vets this morning and has been given xeno treatment for 6 weeks. The vet doesn’t reckon he’s in any pain because of his activity levels and him still eating/drinking as normal and thinks because he got run down with being poorly recently anyway he’s been irritated by something which wouldn’t usually bother him as nothing in his cage has changed. Fingers crossed this sorts him out and we don’t have any more trips to the vets any time soon 🤦🏼‍♀️

That’s brilliant news. He will be sorted out in no time. Well done for getting him seen quickly. 😊
