I went to get my new piggys and they said one had ringworm and was being quarantined. The other, an Abyssinian, had bald spots behind its ears on its head. They said this was normal. Also it had a few crusty tears away from its eyes-- not too near but they were there. The ears were clean but one ear is pink and has no hair behind it. Nothing looks crusty and she is otherwise active. Please, are the spots normal and is the hairless pink ear?

Guinea pigs do have a hairless patch behind their ears. Crusty eyes can be a symptom of a uri. Where are you getting the guinea pigs from?

All guinea pigs have bald patches behind their ears. It's nothing to worry about. It's what helps to keep them cool if I recall.

Pink ears are normal too. Piggies can have different coloured ears.

They do all have bald spots behind their ears but it is also a common place for a yeast infection to appear like this:

So just be on the look out for that. However, I don't think this is likely the case here.

I would be more concerned about the crusty eyes in case they have an repiratory infection.

All pigs have a bald patch behind their ears, and it may be more noticeable on abbys (at least it was on mine due to the way the hair grew there.) The crusty eyes are more of a concern, they could be an eye infection or an upper respiratory tract infection. I would get that checked out.

So the bald spots are on the head behind the ears, right? When I moved the ears, I saw the spots there One ear itself was pink in the back with no hair. The eyes were pretty clear but just below the eyes there were a couple of crusty tears. They are quarantining her for 24hrs--if this is and infection, they will know by then right? I am going to visit her tomorrow. She is a baby Abyssinian and it is a pet store. Yes, I tried to adopt but the shelters here only had hamsters and mice, no Guineas that were female.

Yes behind the ears.
It's hard to find a photo of it as I don't usually take photos from that angle but you can sort of see on my guinea pig sakurai here the bald spot behind her ear.

Not too sure about the tears, I know guinea pigs do have a weird mucus stuff come out of their eyes to clean themselves I believe.

If you go to eye discharge then to normal
