Bales of hay from eBay

Hi.
I used to buy a bale of hay locally but now find it difficult to transport as I have a different car.
I have been looking on eBay and there are a selection of sellers who sell 12kg or 20kg or small bales and include delivery.
Just wondering if any members have bought from eBay and if so, any recommendations or bad experiences?

I have never bought from eBay, but I use haybox.club (many other members use it to).
They offer a subscription service, but you can buy one off. It’s absolutely gorgeous boxed hay, fresh, green and dust free

i use preloved to look for hay bales.i always go and look at the bales before i purchase.i use 3 bales a month,so too expensive to buy hay on line from postage hay.i buy a small amount from hay box,timothy hay co.uk for eating hay.i have also used gumtree but again i go in person and check it and not give any monies until ive seen that all is above board.

I’ve never bought on eBay, never even considered it. I get it from timothy hay. There is a shop a few mins drive from here but it’s more expensive. And the farm I used to buy from used to have stray straw in the hay, so I stopped. And it’s a little more expensive as well.

I have never bought hay from eBay. I always buy from amazon and I have never been disappointed with the quality. I always order from the same company called Pillow Wad I believe and they even have their own website

Bales from Ebay are usually way overpriced...my local farmer sells his bales on Ebay.. if you go and collect it it is £6..if you order it off Ebay its £16
Try and find a local farmer or stables who will sell you hay most will deliver for a small fee,mine charges £1 for delivery.
I buy bags from wilkos atm but when I get my shed up I will be buying a bale.works out cheaper in the long run,if you have somewhere to store it.

I buy this hay off eBay, it is really nice. Item no. 192978680159.

I have had 3 bales so far all have been good quality. They come wrapped in plastic so you need to unwrap them and let the hay breathe. I transfer it into a couple of hessian sacks.

I subscribe to HayBox now - it’s lovely hay.
At least the guinea pigs get very excited by it and it does smell nice

Thanks for the recommendation - how big is a 5kg meadow hay box approximately please?
I am certainly up for a cardboard box of hay instead of a plastic bag of hay as I am very conscious of the amount of plastic used now that transporting a local bale or half a bale is difficult for me.

One box measures 62cm long, 45cm deep and 40cm high

I ordered my first box of 5kg meadow hay today and it will be arriving on Friday. Although delivery could have been tomorrow ... how quick is that?!
I know it sounds funny but I am really excited to see what my five piggies think of it

Doesn’t sound funny at all - sounds perfectly normal, I love nothing more than sticking my head in a new box, having a good sniff of it! ... we all do it! I’ve been having haybox for four months now and my piggies won’t eat any other hay anymore. When I first started getting it, it took a while for me to get my order quantities and frequencies right so I ran out of hay about a week before my next delivery was due so I just bought their normal pet shop hay to tide me over until my next delivery but the piggies had clearly got accustomed to haybox and refused to eat the pet shop hay despite having always eaten it before! Quantities and frequencies now set so they only get haybox hay now! They empty their rack of Timothy within a couple of hours, I’m constantly out there filling it back up!

Well as the saying going “the proof of the pudding is in the eating” although in this case it is the “proof of the hay is in the eating”.

My Haybox was ordered and was out for delivery to me the very next day but I had to reorganise delivery for the following day as I wasn’t expecting delivery for two to three days. Great also to get a text with an hour time slot.

OMG ... what fantastic meadow hay! Soft, warm, sweet smelling and just fab. A small handful seems to go such a long way. I really liked that it came in a cardboard box with not a bit of plastic in sight. The quality of this hay takes me back to probably 15 years ago when I could buy a bale of really quality hay from a local farm but in recent years I can’t transport a bale and even when I could it was a bit hit and miss to the quality.

My piggies love it ... Tommy who is always on the go and looking for whatever is next on offer was flaked out lying down still eating it and even left his veg for it. I love this hay and will definitely be buying again ... thanks again for the recommendations for Haybox!

I’m glad you like it. It really is lovely hay and it does arrive so quickly!

My rabbit is not a hay fan at all, he is 7 years old and I’ve been through everything over the years, he will have a particular type for a little while and then refuse to eat it any more....that is until I found haybox - he adores their Timothy hay as much as my piggies do and hasn’t refused to eat hay once in the past five months!
