I couldnt see a ball on there. ?

Anyway i wouldnt say putting a guinea pig in a ball would be the best idea. They'd probably get abit scared...

If you mean the type of plastic balls people put hamsters in to run around on the carpet, then definately not for piggies! :o Piggies will damage spines using these balls (because they are low-slung and not very bendy creatures) and being creatures that love freedom of movement, they don't like being shut in a ball anyway. Thumbs down to plastic balls! ;)

I don't like balls for any animals..I will tolerate them for hamsters but grr :tickedoff: They don't care though do they aslong as they get their money!

Yep its a green ball used for hamsters but a giant one for guinea pigs and thats soo mean as there selling them here and there saying there great for excercise - sorry if links not working :-\ but its soo cruel :(

Yes it does work but takes a while on broadband to load in. They are so wrong and should be banned!

I've emailed them asking for their wording to be changed regarding the suitability for guinea pigs & explained how these balls are NOT good for piggies O0

The book that comes with piggies from P@H recommends using these balls for piggy to push so that small bits of food or treats drop out as they play.
Personally I think it would be a waste of money.

I think what your talking about is different :) You mean the smaller treat balls where you fill them with treats and the piggies push them around and the treats fall out. I think in this thread the ones being talked about are for you to put the guinea pigs inside so they are supposed to run away :tickedoff: ;)

The picture in the book is the one where you could put the piggy inside.
They must have cottoned on to the fact they aren't selling many and come up with this idea.
I'll see if I can scan it in.

don't know how well that will show up.

Is it actually in a P@H book or just one they sell.

I voiced my concerns about the balls to my manager and she agreed that they are totally unsuitable.
After some persuading i was allowed to display signs stating that we don't recommend them for piggies.

It is a P@H book, that comes in the starter pack for guinea pigs.
It only suggests the balls for pushing, not putting piggys in them.
This is probably a compromise on their part to sell the balls.

I was in a pet shop the other day and they tried to sell me one that was attached to a motor bike ::) ::) she said they are great for guineas >:( they are really bad for their backs and just imagine if one of their nails got caught in one of the slits? :'(

I would report any pet shops I saw selling them to the RSPCA :tickedoff:. Guineas do not need that sort of exercise and as has been said already on this thread these balls are actually very harmful to piggies. :'(

would RSPCA respond to a report like that?

if they do, then I'm ringing them!

Yeah I reported a pet shop (years ago though) and the RSPCA checked them out and made them clean up their act - which they did! I think it's worth a try anyway - what is there to lose? O0 Good luck O0

Don't they advertise them for rats etc? Another way to get round them being unsafe for piggers. :(
We have a hamster one, but only use it on cleaning out day.
The rest of the time he just climbs on us. :)

Went to a pet shop today and there were about 15 baby mixed guinea pigs obviously in about 2 different sections probably meant to be males and females but i heard loads of rumbling and seen humping - also they had giant balls for guinea pigs too :(

I dont normally go in there but i was in a rush so couldnt tell them anything as they wouldnt listen anyway as they were young :(

I had one of those bals come with some rescues a few weeks back. I wont use it for them though as they are not good for them.

Keep meaning to sell it, just one of those things that I keep meaning to do. ?

I've had a reply back from the managing director
