have always been a bit reluctant to try banana for the guineas, there are five of us humans in this house, and bananas dont stay in the fruit bowl for five minutes, and they are quite pricey, but when at the market i saw them sold cheaply, decided to try them , and after a few tentative nibbles, they were picked up and the piggies rushed into hidey places to devour them... some thing else to add to the list ...

Treacle loves banana but doesn't get it very often as cookie is actually scared of it! If a piece of banana is put by her she runs away and hides.

Putt dosen't care about it ( lets face it Putt only cares about parsley).

Bananas are good sources of potassium and therefore a good pick me up food after illness, an operation or particularly the runs in piggies. I only feed the banana flesh when they have been ill - because the banana fruit is very high in sugars. So it gives them energy and minerals, and is easy to mash if you need to spoon or syringe feed.

I wouldn't feed a lot at a time, but a banana skin once or twice a week between my four when they are well is fine. I do sometimes give a bit of skin and leave the rest in the fridge, it keeps well enough like that. They can easily digest the skin, they have a better digestion for vegetables than we have. They may not like it to begin with, as with humans any taste is learnt, so don't worry if they ignore it to start with, just keep trying as it really is a good pick me up. (Also you get to eat a banana yourself which is good for you!)

Please note this is just how I do things, don't take it as gospel, but please do be aware that if you regularly feed the flesh of the banana then you are encouraging the kidneys to work too hard because of the sugar levels.

thankyou very much for that, very good advice. i will definitely try the skins though, have nt done that yet, although now i think they will think they are being done out of" the better part of the fruit ", should have given them the skin first!

Gerry can hear and smell a banana being opened from a different room and will wheek his head off until he has some! It's like a drug for him, he loves it and wants more and more! I only give them a tiny bit each because it is so sugary but it makes him very happy!
The new girls ran away from it to start with but once they saw how much the boys were loving it they tried it and liked it as well.

Thanks for that information Sarah, I didn't know they could eat the skin! Will try it out with them, they do love banana but they only get it every few months :)

Mine love banana skin, I give it about once a week.

Yes I give mine just a slice of banana still in the skin and they enjoy it, I couldn't believe the first time they ate it, I'd been trying them with it for months! And to think they ate the skin!
Guinea pigs are such fuss-pots if you cut something up in a different shape they will suddenly they like something again.:)):))

Mine do and yes persevere sometimes they change their mind!

Ah i didnt know you can give guinea pigs bananas. I always have bananas so can they eat both skin and yummy bit inside?

my boys loveee bananas they only get a little bit every few weeks as a treat but i did not know they could eat the skins can't wait to try them with the skin :)

yes piggies do that a lot with new food, you might find next time mcmac loves it !

Well I might try him on the skin aswell seeing as everyone else says they can eat that too. Do rabbits tend to like banana? Might give mine a little as a Christmas treat since she has never had it before :3 thought it would be a nice present lol

Most of mine like banana (fruit and skin), except Pixel but to be honest, she's not keen on much fruit and is more of a savoury girl!

I agree with trying again, my lot wouldn't touch basil the first couple of times I gave it to them but now they go mad for it! :)

yes mine were like this with curly kale,a lso plums, but love both now, i find it so amusing when they testt something new, they nibble and look quite put out that they are being tried with something different! funny creatures!

I've tried eddie once with banana skin, and once with the fruit, you would have thought I tried to poison him lol

Not tried any of mine with banana or skin, but will give it a go. May be good for one of my babies whose just had a bout of runny bum.

My black rodent has a nibble of one every now and again but bananas are one of the foods often ignored and wasted at my home.

Ours love the skin of ripe bananas but aren't keen if they're not ripe. They wont eat the flesh but that's ok as i like that bit!

Two of mine literally go bananas for it lol! :))
The other two hate it. Remember to feed it sparingly, a tiny piece once in a while as its too high in sugar and potassium to be fed to piggies regularly :)

Mine are more into vegetables than fruit. I have tried banana before and they just left it.
