When I was little I remember giving my guinea pig the leaves from my dad's runner bean plants. She loved them, and lived to a ripe old age so I guess they didn't do her any harm, but I am now more wary about what I feed my pigs and can't see these on the list. Are they ok to feed?

Thanks!

Sophie

Last summer I grew runner beans up the trellis round the outside of the piggies pen and lo and behold they loved the leaves didnt like the beans except for a little of the pod.

I'm not sure but I think I read somewhere that runner beans (leaves, pods, stalks, beans - the whole lot) are poisonous to GPs. Like I said I'm not sure about it but I always think "if in doubt then leave it out".

I have also read (many times) that GPs are really clever little critters as they usually wont eat anything that is bad for them - obviously this is not 100% as we do see poor guineas suffering from poisoning but it seems to be true in the main. I think I also read that this is something to do with the fact that they cannot vomit - most animals would use this as a technique to expel the poison from their system.

Aint Mother Nature clever sometimes?!?!?! ;)

Runner beans didnt do mine any harm anyone know if they are ok for piggies to eat as I am planning to grow some m,ore this summer
